About this event

What exactly is "reproductive justice"? How does the recent rollback of Roe vs. Wade affect our lives and the lives of our community members? What are children in our neighborhood facing, and how can we fight alongside them in their fight for liberation? What does the ancient text tell us about "autonomy and freedom for every human being"? How can progressive people of faith commit to this fight in the face of right-wing religious extremism?

In June of 1994, a group of black women gathered in Chicago. There, they named themselves Women of African Descent for Reproductive Justice. It was there that Reproductive Justice was born. Loretta Ross writes in Reproductive Justice, An Introduction, co-authored by Rickie Solinger:

"The definition of reproductive justice goes beyond the pro-choice/pro-life debate and has three primary principles: (1) the right not to have a child; (2) the right to have a child; and (3) the right to parent children in safe and healthy environments. In addition, reproductive justice demands sexual autonomy and gender freedom for every human being."

Join New Day Church on Sunday, August 16th, from 12 pm-3 pm for our Action Sunday series kickoff!* We will have an exciting day of Teaching & Action for people of faith for reproductive justice. We'll sing songs and pray together. We'll also dive into some text and provide free food for the community. There will also be opportunities for folks to join the fight with local organizations. We hope to see you there!! If you want to volunteer, please sign up here. You can sign up here if you'd like your organization or faith community to co-sponsor.

*Action Sunday is an experimental project emanating from our church's re-commitment to our third guiding principle: confronting injustice with the compassion and abundance of God. We will strive to have an Action Sunday on the 3rd Sunday of each month. On that Sunday, we will not have our regular worship service. Instead, we will provide a service to the community, attend a political action together, or partner with a local organization in programming. For more information, you can email us at newdaybronx@gmail.com.

COVID19 Protocol & Accessibility: We make several recommendations for all attendees due to the rising number of COVID cases. We HIGHLY recommend taking a rapid test before and after the event. We encourage all to register for contact tracing.

We urge you to bring a camping or folding chair for those who cannot sit on the grass. If you cannot get one, please notify us of your needs, and we will work to provide one for you.
