About this event
Constructed as the Metropolitan Savings Bank in 1868 to the designs of architect Carl Pfeiffer the First Ukrainian Assembly of God has owned the building since 1937. The granite, Second Empire style, rectangular four story office building is located on the corner of the Third Avenue and East 7th Street in Manhattan’s East village, and when completed was one of the first “fireproof” commercial buildings in the city.
In addition to worship, the church is a hub for the regional Ukrainian community, especially now. The congregation reaches about 6,500 people outside of its membership every year through activities such as refugee advocacy and immigration clinics, the Ukrainian Village Business Hub, a weekly English-language school, and book presentations.
