M.Div Seminary Degree or commensurate experience required
•
Prior children and youth ministry church experience and a passion to work with children and youth
•
A proven ability to develop effective community-based programs and to cultivate meaningful relationships within communities, including partnerships within the public and private sector
•
Theological understanding consistent with the core values of the Riverside Church
•
Experience in a congregation or setting with an inclusive and multicultural membership and a diverse staff
•
A functional understanding of the ministerial potential and uses of Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Zoom, TikTok, and other forms of virtual communication
•
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
•
Demonstrated ability to interact in a collaborative manner with other ministries and staff
•
Superb time management skills
Responsibilities
•
The goal of this position is to primarily guide the faith development of children and youth (age 13 -18) by partnering with them, their families, and other church members to coordinate activities and experiences that are age-appropriate using scripture, social justice, spiritual practices, prayer, community-building fun, and teaching in alignment with the mission and tradition of The Riverside Church

Serve as pastoral minister working with children and youth exhibiting a deep sense of pastoral care and ministerial duties
•
Children and Youth Worship Service Leadership
•
Prepare weekly innovative and educational programming and worship experiences for all ages preaching and teaching to the children and youth of the church
•
Work with Ministers to coordinate and write and teach weekly Children's Church School and Youth Sunday curriculum and periodic intergenerational curriculum
•
Youth and Parent Engagement
•
Building relationships with children, youth and parents helping them discover their God-given gifts and learn how to use them for God’s purposes in our church and world
•
Responsible for planning a weekly youth weeknight program (Fridays) called “Friday Night Lights” that includes fellowship, fun and faith formation
•
Coordinate special events in the life of the church as related to children (e.g., Freedom School, Fourth Grade Bible Presentation, Easter Egg Hunt, Christmas Musical, etc.) and youth (e.g., Youth Lock-Ins, retreat trips, Confirmation, Riverside Arts Camp, etc.)
•
Protocols and Policies Supervision and Teacher Training
•
Ensure that the church complies with its Safe Sanctuary policy and procedures by training volunteers; obtaining background checks; maintaining records; recruiting the necessary volunteers for all activities; and periodically updating and maintaining the policy, procedures, and covenant statements
•
The assistant director will work with our various volunteer leadership teams to develop, promote, and enhance Christian commitment, discipleship, and spiritual growth in our children and youth
•
Organize and coordinate volunteers for Children’s Church School and Youth programming
•
Emphasis on working to create space for LGBTQIA inclusive, social justice oriented, progressive and intergenerational programming
•
Submit notices for the newsletter to publicize activities with the Communications Department
•
Utilize social media to communicate about programming, invite conversation, and increase participation
•
Attend weekly staff meetings and monthly Education Commission meetings
•
Project budget needs for the Children’s and Youth Ministry for each year and work diligently to adhere to budget and fundraising needs
