Reports to: Director of Music Part Time: 25-28 hours per week/ Benefits Eligible Summary: The ideal candidate will provide both musical and administrative support to the Director of Music and music program(s) of The Riverside Church. Essential Job Responsibilities: With the Director of Music, serves regularly at Sunday Services of Worship as Principal Accompanist for The Riverside Choir. At the discretion of the Director of Music, conducts the Riverside Choir. Shares in playing preludes, postludes, hymns, etc. In the absence of the Director of Music, provides musical leadership for Services of Worship as needed. Collaborates with the Director of Music in selecting music and providing musical leadership. Shares with the Director of Music in providing the music for special services i.e.: Candlelight Carol Service, Christmas, New Year’s Eve Watchnight Service, Holy Week, and others as required; and for incidental services (i.e.: weddings, funerals, annual fund raising gala). Performs two or three organ recitals per year (i.e.: New Year's Eve, Annual English Handbell Festival, Annual Summer Series of Organ Recitals). Serves as staff liaison for the Annual Summer Series of Organ Recitals, including greeting and assisting guest artists. Assists the Director of Music with day-to-day administrative functions including: Supervising choir administration, attendance and payroll. Management of music library. Serve as Music Department liason with the Riverside Church Communications Department for promotional purposes. Design and format concert programs with a knowledge of correct presentation of title and composer for classical music and biographical material. Concert set-ups and event preparation. Experience and Education Requirements: Advanced music degree. Experienced concert organist, accompanist, and church musician. Choral conducting skills. Knowledge of a broad spectrum and diversity of sacred music for worship. Commitment to music as ministry. Ability to offer exceptional musical support and strong musical leadership. Ability to interact in a collaborative manner with other ministries, staff, and congregants, and become an integral part of the ministry of the Church. Excellent people, verbal and communication skills. A strong sense of attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy and thoroughness in all aspects of job performance, administrative and musical. Excellent organizational and computer skills. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, used for choir payroll (Excel) and Music Library catalog (Access), and ability to quickly pick up new computer programs. Experience with graphic design preferred. Ability to use social media and the internet for musical promotional purposes. Proactive, timely and independent; ability to meet weekly deadlines; excellent writing and proofreading skills; ability to be flexible, pleasant and professional, even in stressful situations.
