Forefront Community Pastor Job Description 2021
Forefront Church (located in Brooklyn, New York, the Land of the Lenape) is hiring a full-time
Community Pastor to serve on Forefront’s Executive Council, along with the Teaching Pastor and Producer. The Community Pastor will share responsibility for overall management and decision-making at the church, which includes (but is not limited to) fundraising and overseeing budgets; developing vision, mission, and strategy for the church, including sermon series and topics; logistics/data administration, managing the Technical Director, Worship Pastor, and other staff members; and meeting regularly with the Leadership Team.
The Community Pastor will focus on serving the community by managing care and groups; developing organizational and leadership strategy and ministering to our children and families.
The Community Pastor is responsible for allowing the congregation to thrive by elevating lay leaders, supporting newcomers, and monitoring congregational engagement. The Community
Pastor will specifically lead the Connection Team and shepherd Newcomers, as well as produce content for the church (preaching, blog posts, social media posts, etc).
Areas of Work
Managing Leaders / Leadership Strategy & Development
- Manage the team of Deacons who oversee various elements of the church, including
Groups, Data, Care, Justice, etc.
- Manage KidStuf and Family Ministries, including re-starting in-person KidStuf and Family
Activities and overseeing volunteers.
- Along with the Executive Council, develop, implement, and monitor more standardized processes for leadership development
Newcomer Funnel & Congregational Architecture
- Manage the “Newcomer Funnel” and “Congregational Database”
- Support Data Team and the ongoing use of Planning Center
- Organize and plan the Newcomer Dinners, including training and advising the virtual dinner hosts.
- Continue to develop and implement new ways to engage Newcomers and early-stage congregants
- Use the collected data to monitor newcomers and congregants, as well as their engagement within the community, and reach out as needed to connect more deeply.
Community Support
- Meet one-on-one with congregants, deacons, and leaders as needed
- With a pulse on the community and its needs, develop ideas for events, content, sermon topics, and programs that can support the congregation as they grow in their faith.
- Serve as a liaison between individuals and the resources that they need within the church community.
Producing Content
- Preach 1-2 times per month
- Write occasional blog posts
- Support development of new webpages as needed
- Create content for social media
- Curate or develop curriculum for KidStuf
Desired Skills and Experience
We are looking for candidates who…
- Embody our mission, vision, and values as a church.
- Are progressive in their theology and focused on LGBTQ inclusion and taking action as an Anti-Racist church.
- Graduated from seminary or another pastoral training program.
- Manage teams well and have experience overseeing volunteer leaders and/or other staff.
- Have experience and comfort with sourcing outside funding and fundraisers.
Job Details and Compensation
The salary range for this full-time, exempt salaried position is $75,000 - $95,000 depending on experience level. Forefront offers basic health insurance to all employees and their families through United Healthcare.

- Bachelor's (Preferred)
Experience:
- community organizing: 1 year (Preferred)
- ministry: 1 year (Preferred)
License/Certification:
- Master's degree in divinity or other theology-related fields (Preferred)
