Church Pension Group (CPG) is a financial firm located in Midtown Manhattan. CPG was founded in 1917 to provide pension benefits to eligible clergy of the Episcopal Church. Since then, its mission has expanded to include life and disability insurance, health benefits, property & casualty insurance, and publishing.

The Director Retirement and Income Protection Benefits is primarily responsible to manage plan administration of all retirement, disability, and life insurance plans. This position will also help identify and drive opportunities for efficiencies across the Benefits Policy team and may take on additional tasks associated with the broader Benefits Policy team goals and objectives. The incumbent is the policy and vendor relationship manager, responsible for coordinating and performing numerous plan administration activities, conducting performance analysis of the vendors and plans, and ensuring consistency in approach across plans.

Effective performance of the essential functions of this position requires regular in-person, on-site interaction with colleagues, both for purposes of relationship building and meaningful collaboration.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Execute the annual and multiple-year strategic plan for retirement, disability, and life insurance plans
Research current market trends
Collaborate across BU/CUs to solicit information, test ideas and communicate changes
Complete analysis to support strategic direction including impact analysis
Identify risks
Present recommendations to senior leadership
Ensure necessary policies associated with large corporate strategic initiatives are created and/or updated by the targeted effective date. Activities include:
Coordination with Legal and Compliance
Partnering with IBO, CS and Communication for release strategy
Managing the development and quality review of all necessary policy documents by coordinating with subject matter experts and outside resources (e.g., legal counsel) as necessary
Project manage support team
Work closely with Compliance, Legal and management to ensure policies and procedures are addressed and documented, that vendors are compliant with all regulatory and legal requirements.
Manage day to day policy responsibilities by ensuring that any changes in plan administration is communicated (internally and externally) and key documents reflect current policies by supporting the review of:
Plan Documents
Process documentation across benefits
Job aides and other training materials
Administrative Guidelines, Plan Guides and Vendor Business Requirements
Valuation Reports
Disability Benefits Schedules, certificates, and policies
Compliance Coordinator for Benefits Policy
Responsible for managing resolution of member or participant issues that arise and identifying emerging trends within the plans
Keep apprised of market trends in benefits to bring new features and concepts to be considered
Employ effective and proactive relationship management and communication practices to strengthen vendor and internal staff client relationships
Ensure vendor implementations are completed by the targeted effective date. Activities include managing in design, policy, and risk identification, manage the development and quality of the set up between the vendor and all key areas of CPG (Legal, Compliance, IBO, CS, IBAMS, Communications, Tax)
Coordinate with and support IBAMS and E&W with education initiatives and presentations
Manage special requests for income replacement plans (e.g., General Convention resolutions, Board of Trustees presentations, Episcopal Business Administrators Conference (EBAC), CPG Business Partnership Conference (BPC)).
Manage special requests allowed under the plan rules
Manage all plan corrections through identification, escalation, and updates to processes and procedures

QUALIFICATIONS:

Solid knowledge and understanding of retirement (defined benefit & defined contribution) plans, employer disability plans, and life insurance
Experience with vendor performance standards development, monitoring, and enforcement
Demonstrated ability to make sound decisions and recommendations based on business judgment, established guidelines and individual circumstances and to provide support and documentation for conclusions
Excellent written communication skills, including prior experience developing and documenting policies; excellent verbal communication skills, including preparing and conducting presentations presentation skills
Knowledge and experience with the legal and regulatory environment relating to benefits lines of business
Ability to prepare executive summary reports
Possess the ability to work collaboratively across all levels of the organization and with external clients and vendors
Must be tactful, discreet, and professional in dealing with confidential/privacy matters
Intuitive sense of honesty and highest ethical standards; all actions and decisions are consistent with corporate values
Must be able to work on multiple tasks simultaneously, possess strong organizational and prioritizations skills, work independently, and meet urgent deadlines
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of stakeholders; consultative and collaborative style that allows for influence without authority
Ability to operate and thrive in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities
Flexible and comfortable to roll-up the sleeves, used to being hands-on
Proficiency in MS Office (Words, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in business or related fields
10+ years of industry experience is required in or related to retirement plans or disability plans and insurance industry, and/or benefits consulting with increasing responsibility
Track record of success in managing individuals, projects, or teams

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Commuting to the office, on average, three days a week. Extensive use of a computer keyboard is a demand of the position to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Hybrid (two days working from home, three days working in a standard office environment). Salary Range: $108,800 - $145,300
