Church Publishing Incorporated, founded in 1918, is a publisher of trade books for general readers (inspiration, leadership, financial wellness, social justice), academic works and professional church resources including a suite of electronic products. CPI publishes The Book of Common Prayer, The Hymnal 1982, and content used in the liturgy, faith formation, and mission of The Episcopal Church.

We currently have a hybrid work model. #LI-Hybrid

The Editor will acquire and edit trade books for the Morehouse imprint. This position will generate ideas, reach out to potential authors, work with agents and manage submissions in line with the overall identity of the publishing house. This position will work closely with authors to develop content and shepherd projects from acquisition to publication and beyond, ensuring a successful publication defined by revenue goals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Acquire and edit trade titles.
Generate ideas and present them, work with literary agents.
Prepare necessary editorial and acquisitions packets including descriptions, selling points and comparative titles. Write copy.
Adhere to metadata guidelines in the presentation of information to sales accounts.
Edit manuscripts, keeping to production and publication schedules.
Manage permissions as necessary.
Manage author and agent communications.
Facilitate contractual agreements.
Work closely with marketing to maximize sales.
Present at sales conferences and attend conferences and book fairs as necessary.
Knowledge or interest in faith-based publishing.

Experienced in trade non-fiction acquisitions
Excellent communication skills—written, oral, editing, and presentation
Must have market awareness
Must have the ability to travel as needed

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

S. or B.A. required
5+ years of trade publishing experience
