Job Summary

The Facilities Maintenance and Repair Specialist works both independently and collaboratively with the Facilities team in providing congregants, visitors, students and staff a clean and safe environment in which to worship, tour, learn and work.

Responsibilities

The Facilities Maintenance and Repair Specialist professes a specialty in one or more of the following areas: plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, door hardware.

Guides less experienced Facilities staff in completing work assignments and mentors those staff who exhibit an interest in learning new skills.

Assists the Cathedral’s maintenance and facilities vendors in the completion of renovation and repair projects.

Demands on the Cathedral’s Facilities team may change dramatically from day to day. Given that, our Facilities Maintenance and Repair Specialists should take a flexible approach to work assignments and be able to change course with little or no advance warning. In addition to those listed in the first bullet of this section, assignments may include the following:

· Lawn work

· Snow blowing

· Power washing stonework and masonry

· Other supporting activities such as floor buffing, sweeping, and mopping

Requirements

· Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination

· High school diploma or equivalent

· Candidates with New York State Class E drivers licenses are preferred

· Building maintenance and custodian experience

· Supervisory experience a plus

· Strong communication and interpersonal skills

· Flexibility: the Cathedral is a busy place and a dynamic environment in which to work

· The ability to work equally well independently and alongside other valued members of the Cathedral’s Facilities team

Great customer service skills—members of our Facilities team frequently have direct contact with other staff and the public and are core members of our hospitality team
