Essential Job Responsibilities:

 

  • shares responsibility for the planning, administration and management of fire safety programs throughout The Riverside Church-owned buildings to ensure compliance with all applicable local, state and federal laws/regulations regarding fire and life safety.
  • Act as between FDNY external fire safety companies (Alarm, sprinkler, etc) and all other appropriate authorities on all issues related to fire safety including investigations, inspections building and construction site familiarization, special events, and other pertinent issues.
  • Plans, organizes and manages fire protection and life safety activities.
  • Work with fire safety company to schedule and conduct fire drills in buildings
  • The FSD responds to all fire alarms and assists the Security Director in assessing and addressing the incident, and acts as the Incident Commander in appropriate situations.
  • The Fire Life Safety officer is also responsible for initiating necessary actions for violation remediation and documents all fire alarms and inspections
  • Initiates corrective action when fire or life safety violations are identified. Ensures appropriate corrective action has been taken when necessary.

 

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Extensive knowledge of fire prevention, safety, and security operations.
  • Excellent supervisory skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

 

Experience and Education Requirements

 

  • At least 5 years of fire safety/security experience required.
  • Certificate of Fitness for Fire Safety Director/EAP Director.
  • In depth knowledge of NFPA standards, NYC Fire and Building Codes, Rules of the City of New York (RCNY) and OSHA regulations.
  • Advanced training or certification in safety and security preferred.
  • This person must be available to work extended hours, and weekends to meet the needs of the University.
  • Candidates must be familiar with life safety/fire protection systems including performance requirements, performance monitoring and analysis and planned maintenance.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
  • Ability to travel throughout facility as required to conduct safety inspections
