Park Avenue United Methodist Church is seeking a custodian to work under the direction and alongside the head custodian.
This church custodian is responsible for maintaining the order, cleanliness, and security of the entire 4-story Church and Park Avenue Methodist Day School.
This position reports to the Administrative Assistant and ultimately to the Senior Minister.
This is a full time, 12 month position.
Must be available Wednesday – Sunday and have flexibility to work overtime as needed.
Starting salary is $15 an hour with benefits.
Open and close building
Provide security at main doors and monitor building on an hourly basis
Maintain cleanliness and order of Sanctuary and balcony (arrange bibles and fliers in pews, sweep floor, polish pews as needed)
Maintain cleanliness and order of basement, 3rd floor and Day School (sweep and mop, vacuum, empty trash, clean bathrooms, setup and breakdown of furniture & equipment)
Clean and mop stairwells, lobbies, and elevator
Ensure garbage and recycling is put out in timely fashion for pickup.
Serve as security for outside rentals in the evenings; setup and breakdown as necessary
Perform a variety of general and ongoing maintenance tasks
Ability to perform physical activities such as moving furniture and equipment, working with tools and equipment, and lifting and moving items up to 50 lbs
Fluency in English
Previous experience as a cleaner/custodian required
The demeanor of this position is extremely important as he/she is the first person of contact for those entering the building.
This person should be welcoming, friendly, helpful, and informative.
Experience working collaboratively as part of a team, taking directions from supervisor, working independently, and completing tasks on an assigned schedule.
