Position Summary
Community Christian Church (CCC) is a multiethnic, multigenerational, non-denominational church in East Harlem meeting in a public school on Sundays. We are currently looking for a part-time Lead Nursery Teacher (LNT) to provide care for young children, age 3 and under, on Sunday mornings.
Job Description
You will be responsible for the following:
- Providing a safe, fun, Christ-centered environment for children 3 and under during the worship service on Sunday mornings.
- Teaching lessons using material provided by and paid for by the church.
- Communicating with parents at drop-off and pick-up while checking children in and out.
- Necessary physical activity including playing with children on the floor, modeling hand motions to songs, picking up children, changing diapers, taking children to the bathroom, disinfecting classrooms and toys, and setting up the class space.
- Coordinating the volunteer helpers for the class.
Candidates Qualifications
- Heart for God, families, and children.
- Must be in general agreement with and live by CCC’s statement of faith.
- Must be able to lead and take charge of the classroom.
- Background in early childhood education; whether in a ministry, daycare, or other education environment.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure; level-headed when the classroom environment is stressful.
- Must be able to talk with parents and lead volunteers in the classroom.
- Must be a team player and have character qualities such as integrity, wisdom, and good judgment.
- Warm and engaging personality that is welcoming to parents and children, especially those children who may have difficulty separating from their parents.
Weekly Schedule:
- On Sundays arrive no later than 10:00 AM to set up the classroom space and to greet volunteers and children as they arrive. Leave around 12:30 PM after everything is put away and cleaned up.
- During the week prepare the lesson for Sunday and gather any needed materials. You will be reimbursed for any materials you purchase.
- During the week communicate with parents.
- Schedule and work with volunteer nursery helpers. There will be at least one volunteer each week to assist the Lead Nursery Teacher.
- Communicate with the lead pastor weekly.
Expectations:
- Arrive on time each Sunday.
- Give at least 2 weeks’ notice prior to being absent. If ill, please notify the Lead Pastor as soon as possible.
- No more than 6 absences per year (including sick days) and no more than 3 absences in a row.
- Work on Easter and the Sunday prior to Christmas Day.
- Submit to a background check.
Benefits:
- Weekly compensation of $150.00 for an estimate 3½ to 4½ hours per week.
- Two paid weekends off a year after the first six months.

Although we own a small building at 210 East 117thStreet in East Harlem, we meet on Sundays at Public School 96, 216 East 120thStreet which is located near the Lexington Avenue subway line.
