Senior Accountant
We are searching for a team player to fill our Senior Accountant position. Description

The Senior Accountant performs professional high-level accounting work, general ledger accounts reconciliation, compiling and verifying financial data and reports for the Vestry, as well as providing overall support in the management of the daily operations of the Finance Department. The Senior Accountant oversees the Staff Accountant and reports to the Acting Controller.

Responsibilities

· General Accounting:

o Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable

o Prepare month end journal entries

o Reconcile statement of financial position and statement of activity accounts

o Reconcile payroll and prepare journal entries to allocate costs to various departments

o Record accruals

o Perform the bank reconciliations

o Assists with student billing reconciliation

o Supervise administration and monthly reconciliation of credit card expense tracking software

· Construction Accounting and Capital Expenditures

o Track expenditures for all CIP by project

o Prepare monthly Project Status Reports for management

o Prepare the capital budget to actual reports for the Building Committee

· Fixed Asset Management

o Maintain subsidiary ledger of Fixed Assets, disposals, and calculation of depreciation

· Endowment Investments

o Reconcile investment statements to GL, Investment Report, reflecting the activity of the Endowment and Scholarship Funds

· Accounting for Contributions

o Accounting for restricted and general contributions

o Reconcile all contributions and pledge reports between GL and the Advancement office

o Record activity for restricted expenditures

o Prepare monthly report of restricted contributions and expense releases

· Financial Reporting and Budgeting

o Primarily responsible for the monthly closing

o Analyze variances for budget to actual

o Assist budget managers with budget to actual variances as needed

o Prepare the monthly financial reporting package for Senior Leadership and the Vestry

· Year-end Close and Financial Audit

o Works closely with Acting Controller to coordinate year-end close and audit preparations

o Prepare the Net Asset Roll forward and the Fixed Asset Roll forward

o Prepare audit schedules and analysis

o Prepare schedule to support the footnotes to the audit statements

· Act as bursar / face of finance department to St. Thomas Choir School office and parents

Education and Experience

· Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or business-related field with an emphasis in accounting

· Knowledge of non-profit accounting

· Knowledge of fund accounting helpful but not required

· Knowledge of GAAP

· 3-5 years’ experience working in a similar role

· CPA preferred, but not required

· Experience with BlackBaud’s Financial Edge software preferred, but not required

· Must possess strong technical skills specifically: Excel, Microsoft Office environment and Accounting Systems

· Candidates must have exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills and display a collaborative, team-oriented work style

· A high degree of professionalism, discretion, confidentiality, and strong sense of boundaries is required

· Strong management and organizational skills are a must

Schedule

This is a full-time exempt position, Monday to Friday.
