Job Summary:
The Servant Leader Intern (SLI) serves as a classroom teacher in a literacy-based summer enrichment program. The SLI helps lead a literacy rich curriculum during the morning, and leads/chaperones activities in the afternoon. The Servant Leader Intern should be experienced in working with groups of children, responsible, energetic, able to think on his/her feet, a good leader and a strong role model.

Essential Job Responsibilities:
• Engage a maximum group of 10 scholars per class ages 6-13 years old over the course of a 6-week summer program.
• Deliver reading curriculum to student group.
• Set up and break down classroom space, including securing and organizing the appropriate materials.
• Serve as leaders of afternoon activities and other special events. Devise afternoon enrichment activities (arts, yoga, dance, sports, STEM, etc.) and serve as a leader of these activities and other special events.
• Maintain health and safety standards, and report any concerns to the Site Coordinator.
• Maintain accurate attendance records.
• Collaborate with site staff to establish and maintain a positive, supportive, and structured environment for the scholars.
• Serve as positive role models for the scholars.
• Attend all required Trainings dates June 1-June 4.

• Strong interpersonal skills and commitment to the ethics of good character, humility, and servant leadership.
• Strong appreciation for individual cultural history and the willingness to be open to, and respectful of all cultures.
• Mature and professional demeanor.
• Enthusiasm for the program and commitment to children’s advocacy and servant leadership.
• At least 18 years old, enrolled in college and completed at least 1 year of undergraduate studies or recent college graduate who has previously served as a Freedom School Servant Leader Intern (SLI).
• Ability to work in the summer heat, lift at least 50 pounds and actively participate in all activities.
• Valid ID and reliable transportation.
• Satisfactory drug test and satisfactory background check for criminal and child protective findings.
• Spanish language proficiency a plus, but not required.

Accountability:
• Shall be accountable to the Site Coordinator and the Program Manager.

Hours & Compensation:
• Summer position: program start dates July 10-August 18.
• Local orientation for Servant Leader Interns is June 26-June 29.
