The Riverside Church in the City of New York is a historical landmark with a robust public platform within the city and country. In addition to its legacy of being a voice for progressive Christianity, Riverside is a thriving church community, a popular venue for programs and events throughout New York City, and home to a fully operational theatre. The Welcome Center / Gift Shop is one of the first visitor and guest engagement points responsible for promoting all the different facets of The Riverside Church while offering merchandise and ticket sales.

 


The Welcome Center/ Gift Shop Associate is primarily responsible for managing the Welcome Center / Gift Shop, including the general customer service and the sale of merchandise, opening and closing, managing inventory, merchandising displays, and answering questions and providing information to guests. Applicants must have strong communication and multi-tasking skills with the ability to relate to and communicate with the public and the diverse membership of a progressive, urban, Christian congregation, particularly with women, LGBTQ members, children, and the elderly.

 

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform customer service and sales functions using our Agile POS hardware and software.
  • Act as an ambassador of The Riverside Church, answering questions and providing information and guidance to guests.
  • Perform opening and closing activities of the Welcome Center / Gift Shop.
  • Merchandising displays, rotating inventory, and providing new looks for merchandise.
  • I am receiving, entering, and reconciling merchandise and inventory records.
  • I was receiving and processing invoices promptly.
  • Help keep inventory organized within the stock room.
  • Help conduct annual physical inventory activities on a timely and accurate basis.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the Welcome Center / Gift Shop Manager.

 


Experience and Education Requirements:

  • A high school diploma is required; some colleges preferred
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft products.
  • Fluency with Agile POS/ticketing program preferred.
  • Energetic, self-motivated, multi-tasking, customer-service-oriented team player with strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritize, follow through, and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Works well independently, under pressure, and in a collaborative environment.
  • You have demonstrated the ability to interact collaboratively with other ministries and staff.
  • Experience working for or with faith-based organizations and communities is a plus.
