Job Description:

Worship/Creative Arts Lead

Central Goal for this Position: To leverage and use all of the talents entrusted to Fellowship Wesleyan Church to tell the Gospel story in passionate, fun, and truthful ways to better our weekend worship experiences and other events.

Elevator Pitch:  This will be the best church staff you will ever get to work within. We are a culture-first staff with joy whenever possible and gratitude at all times.  While there is still a long way to get our weekend services to where we want them to be, we have gained excellent new musicians and poured resources into our equipment over the last six months.  Buffalo is a city that is young and hungry for the Gospel.  It's also one of the best and most affordable places to raise a family.  The church itself is thriving with our Sunday attendance near tripling over the last year and a half with the adoption of modern worship and a new pastor.  For more information, check out our web page and social media ( www.FellowshipWesleyan.org ).

Position Summary:  First and foremost, we need an enthusiastic leader who puts volunteers in place to succeed at using their gifts.  There will be expectations to adequately oversee all aspects of creativity in services, including worship, lightning, streaming production, set design, drama, and visual spaces.  While there is no expectation of being a master of all of these things, there is an expectation of continual learning, empowering volunteers to learn and act, and a commitment to improving our presentation every day.

Theology: Must be willing to serve under the standards of the Wesleyan Church ( https://www.wesleyan.org/about/our-beliefs )

Regular Duties:

  • Oversee two contemporary services on Sunday, 9 AM and 10:30 AM, and aim to appeal to many worshippers.
  • Worship Leading Duties
    • Recruit, develop, empower, and take spiritual care of musicians.  This includes finding an entire team of volunteers to run weekend worship services.
    • Recruit, develop, empower and take spiritual care of the visual arts team.  This includes finding full teams for sounds, visuals, and streaming.
    • Work with our communication director and first impressions coordinator to design our spaces that are done, modern, and with the end goal of excellence.
    • Plan on the budget with the finance team and work within the budget allowed for worship.
    • Lead regular meetings with those involved in prayer.
  • Participate in bimonthly worship planning team meetings for the planning and implementation of services.
  • Participate in bi-monthly staff meetings and be fully bought into the mission, vision, and covenant that we participate in at Fellowship Wesleyan Church.
  • Willing to work with local mentors in worship arts.

Education:  Preferably a four-year program or equivalent with music, leadership, and theology training.

Experience:  Participated in a worship arts program with a full band and proficient visual arts team.

  • Life-Long Learner
  • Willingness to do Whatever it Takes
  • Humility
  • Footwashing Leadership
  • Excellent Communicator
  • Tenacious and Resourceful Doer
  • Tech Savvy
  • Resourceful Learner

Disclaimer:  We recognize that for our budget, we are not going to find a candidate who is experienced at everything, proficient at everything, or who can handle all that we are asking.  We are looking for someone willing to come in and grow with the church.  We want to keep moving in a more contemporary direction and increase the excellence of our weekend services.
