THE QUALIFICATIONS OF STUDENT PASTOR

Called by God for a full-time ministry.
Have a heart of shepherding the flock of God (1 Peter 5:1-4) and leading the flock in sound teaching and unity (Ephesians 4:1-16).
Person of character and testimony as in 1 Timothy 3:1-13.
Doctrine: Full agreement with the GPCCC Statement of Faith.
Completed Bachelor’s or higher degree related to ministry from an accredited college or seminary or equivalent as determined by our church’s Board of Pastors and Elders (PEB).
A minimum of 2 years of student ministry pastoral experience.
Able to work with multiple staff in a multilingual and multi-cultural Christian environment.
Proficient in English and familiar with American culture. Proficiency in Chinese is a plus, but not a requirement.
The church does not sponsor a working visa or green card application.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Preach biblically sound sermons and teach Bible studies.
Develop an effective discipleship program for students.
Plan, develop and implement programs and events for an effective student ministry.
Lead a team of volunteers in the operation of a student ministry, including weekend services (Friday evenings and Sunday mornings) and periodic special events.
Serve as student advocate and champion, educating and enlightening the ministry team on the hopes, concerns and needs of students in the local church and community.
Serve as an engaging Christian spiritual leader and role model with strong biblical background.
Communicate with church leadership staff, parents and congregation in a timely manner utilizing available resources (email, website, social media, newsletter, etc.)
Function as a member of the church’s Pastoral Staff performing baptism services, weddings, funerals, etc. as part of a rotation schedule.
Other Duties as assigned.

Sense of Responsibilities

Cast Biblical vision for ministry and strategic planning.
Develop a strategic ministry model and plan for spiritual formation of youth through teaching, discipleship and mentoring to develop faith foundations.

Teaching & Sunday school

Plan a calendar, curriculum and programs and develop lessons and teaching materials.
Recruit, lead, train, pray with and mentor counselors and youth ministry council.
Coordinate weekly activities and lead small groups and Sunday School lessons.

Parents Interaction

Work with parents and parent leaders to develop their relationship with and discipleship of their youth.
Visit families as needed.

Mentor Counselor and Youth Ministry Council

Oversee recruitment and training of mentor counselors and ministry council.
Help mentor counselors and ministry council to plan and execute programs and events.
Lead mentor counselor and ministry council in monthly meetings and engage with them outside of church.

Discipleship

Help to develop discipleship program in student ministry.
Recruit and train disciplers of students.
Connect deeply with youth to help them grow in faith and discover God’s call in their lives.

Counseling

Conduct spiritual restoration and faith counseling during crisis, depression, mental illness, etc.
Meet with students for encouragement and counseling.

Youth Missions & Service

Select projects and sites and train mission team members.
Evaluate, debrief and mobilize prayer base and provide logistic planning and execution.

Trips & Retreats

Plan and execute various trips such as mission trips or retreats, including Junior High, Senior High, and College Student Retreats, Worship Team Retreat, and Ministry Council Retreat.

Administration

Update website, update databases, maintain properties, set policies as needed, update liability forms, etc.
Communicate with parents of upcoming activities.

Other Areas of Ministry

Attend church meetings: Pastoral staff (weekly), Church leadership (monthly), all church-wide events/conference/meetings.
Mentor ministry seminarians or interns.
Participate in church-wide pastoral ministry – shared duties among GPCCC pastoral staff, including joint services and baptisms.
Attend extracurricular school events as time allows.

REPORTING

Fulfill other assignments in support of church wide ministries as needed.
Work with the administrative support staff.
Report to the senior pastor. In the absence of a senior pastor, work under the direction of lead English pastor or Board of Pastors and Elders (PEB).
