Responsibilities

Oversight of all services of worship at DVBC, including Sunday mornings, special events and holidays

This position reports directly to the Lead Pastor

WORSHIP ARTS MINISTRY OVERSIGHT

Guide and direct worship planning process for Sunday morning worship services (including leading the weekly Worship Planning Team Meetings)

Selection of appropriate songs for corporate worship (including worship songs, special music, instrumentals, choral pieces, etc.), ensuring solid doctrinal content & origin, singability, thematic fit, and connection with congregation

Maintaining a reasonable worship repertoire and balance of songs (i.e., introducing new songs regularly, archiving older songs, maintaining an eclectic balance of “psalms, hymns and spiritual songs” (Eph. 5:19 & Col. 3:16)

We highly value the inclusion of hymns (often sung with a modern arrangement) in every one of our worship services

Another high value is maintaining an eclectic worship style that reflects many genres of music and the usage of varied instrumentation/team composition

Planning the flow, elements, and content of the worship services in partnership/support of the Lead Pastor, ensuring a seamless flow and content that compliments the message content

Managing/Gatekeeping the run time of our services and balancing requests for time in the services from various ministries

Weekly worship prep, including personal worship lead, musician, and heart preparation

Also includes other service programming elements such as programming ProPresenter, Lights, stage plot, and leading the weekly stage flip

RECRUIT, TRAIN, SUPPORT, AND SHEPHERD WORSHIP ARTS MINISTRY VOLUNTEERS

Recruit and audition all worship team members (which includes vocal, band, and tech team members)

Provide, oversee, and orchestrate training for volunteers that serve in the band, vocal, and worship tech arenas via 1:1 training, training with other volunteers, and other group training opportunities (i.e., workshops and orientation sessions)

Equip ministry volunteers to serve at the highest level of excellence possible, with the goal of removing all obstacles to worship for our congregation

Provide for the spiritual growth and maturity of our Ministry Volunteers, including pastoral counseling, guidance, and encouragement and spurring them on take advantage of all our connection and discipleship opportunities as possible

Communicate regularly re: musical and spiritual/heart preparation and scheduling worship team members

Leads weekly vocal sectional with vocal team (currently Thursday evenings at 5:15) to assist them with preparation, warm up, identifying parts, and other instructions

Leads weekly midweek rehearsal with worship team (currently Thursday evenings at 6:30), preparing them for all transitions, flow, and musical elements/arrangements within the worship songs

WORSHIP TECHNOLOGY OVERSIGHT

Oversee and provide for all of the Audio/Video/Lighting (AVL) needs of all of DVBC’s worship venues, including youth and children’s worship

Prioritize, budget, and steward the church’s resources to ensure the proper maintenance and acquisition of necessary worship equipment and supplies for all of the above venues

Manage the Worship Arts Annual Budget, setting amounts in various categories according to need and ensuring spending limits are maintained

Coordinate with the Director of Facilities re: the usage of worship venues by other parties (i.e., weddings, funerals, graduations, meetings, recitals)

Leads Concerts Ministry Team which provides volunteers, marketing, and supplies for hosting concerts at DVBC as a part of our outreach efforts

Oversees decorations/staging/lighting design for Holidays, special events, teaching series, and other special events

Recruits or hires musicians/bands/special presenters for special events, special services, holidays, etc

Active participation in the staff team, attending all meetings, conferences, retreats, and other staff events, actively contributing ideas and participating in ministry discussions, even and especially outside of the worship arts arena

Present at all church-wide events when requested and other “all hands on deck” situations

Team player who is invested in other staff members’ success

Encouraged to connect with/fellowship/coordinate with other worship leaders/pastors, and other ministry and educational worship arts programs in the vicinity and region

Worship Arts Interns – provide guidance, leadership, management of Interns who serve the Worship Arts Ministry, both as paid employees as well as volunteer/unpaid interns
