Full Job Description

Point Loma Community Church Preschool and Toddler Learning Center uses techniques of emergent curriculum and play based learning to promote social and emotional development as well as allowing the children to guide their learning to promote a lifelong love of education. We are a Christian preschool connected to Point Loma Community Presbyterian Church and seek a professional that has a strong Christian faith and is able to incorporate it in daily school activities. We have small class sizes with only 15 children with a lead teacher and an assistant teacher.

Qualified teacher a plus
Monday through Friday from 1:00-5:00
Must have a minimum of 12 ECE or 9 & working towards 3 more to become a qualified teacher.
Experience working with children is preferred.
Part-time, 10 month (September- June) Summer’s off or opportunity to work camps
We follow the City School calendar for holidays and school breaks.

RESPONSIBILIES

Responsibilities of the teaching assistants will include, but will not be limited to the following:

1. Assist in planning and implementing the daily program under the direction of the teacher

2. Assist in planning and preparing the learning environment, setting up interest centers, and preparing needed materials and supplies.

3. Assist in supervising the playground and other outdoor activities

4. Assist with the general housekeeping tasks by straightening the room at transition times and cleaning up after class

5. Assist the teacher in any other appropriate ways, setting examples for the teaching parents by keeping adult conversation to a minimum, providing a model in usage of appropriate words and behavior with the children. Serve as a positive liaison with parents

6. May have to change diapers or help with potty training.

7. May have to help set up and take down cots for nap.

8. Maintain a professional attitude at all times

9. Treat all children with dignity and respect

10. Attend all staff meetings and training programs and workshops/conferences

11. Carry out appropriate and positive guidance techniques as established by the school

12. Being familiar with and handling emergency procedures

13. Modeling appropriate social skills and nutrition habits for the children

14. Communicating the philosophy of the program to others

15. Perform other assigned duties as directed by the lead teacher or Director
