POSITION SUMMARY:
The Caseworker Coach I is an essential member of the Rachel’s team responsible for ensuring residents are served in clean, safe environments. Rachel’s Night Shelter is a 35-bed interim shelter for unhoused women. Motivating, supporting, and guiding the people we serve is a shared responsibility for every member of the team.

RESIDENT SUPPORT SPECIALIST RESPONSIBILITIES

Welcomes and orients new participants to shelter; completes initial intakes and explains program routines and behavioral expectations
Provides a consistent presence in the facility, remaining mindful of residents’ physical, emotional and psychological safety
Assists participants in developing life skills (e.g. how to use showers, laundry facilities, maintain the environment, resolve conflicts, navigate social service delivery system, etc.)
Ensures facility is clean, well maintained and supports residents in completing their assigned chores in a timely and efficient manner.
Fosters a trauma-informed, safety-focused culture within Rachel’s Night Shelter
Assist residents in developing life skills (e.g. how to use showers, laundry facilities, maintain environment, resolve conflicts, negotiate social service delivery system, etc.)
Performs hourly ‘fire watch’ walking through the shelter and documenting time on the fire log sheet
Stock, organize and distribute supplies.
Launder linens of outgoing residents, as needed.
Keeps supervisor apprised of issues, problems, complaints and/or concerns expressed by residents
Documents services provided, maintains sign-in logs and other record-keeping processes. Documents significant events in the daily log and emails notes before the end of your shift.

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
Associate degree in Human Services, social or behavioral sciences or related field or equivalent experience serving people experiencing homelessness
Minimum one-year experience serving people living with substance use disorders and/or mental illness
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Bilingual Spanish speaking preferred but not required.
Strong computer skills and ability to become proficient with data base software.
Knowledge of trauma informed care, Motivational Interviewing, Stages of Change, Housing First and harm reduction approaches to service delivery
Ability to multi-task, organize, and prioritize
Ability to work effectively with others and independently
