POSITION DESCRIPTION
Children, Youth, & Family Minister at St. Matthew s̓
Compensation: $20/hour
Status: up to 15 hours/week, non-exempt
Reports To: Priest-in-Charge
Schedule: Sunday 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., weekly staff meetings (TBD), other days/times flexible. Potential diocesan-wide training during daytime hours on weekdays, or weekends may be needed.
Major Responsibilities: In consultation with the Priest-in-Charge and Pastoral
Director, the minister coordinates and oversees all aspects of Sunday morning
Christian formation and worship for ages 0-18, including these responsibilities:
- Hold Sunday school lessons for school-age children, and/or recruit, train, and support of volunteer teachers who are passionate about and prepared for working with children and youth
- Review and select age-appropriate and liturgically seasonal curriculum
- Register of children and youth and maintain appropriate records
- Plan occasional special children, youth, and family-focused services
- Creatively accommodate for the limitations of the coronavirus pandemic, including opportunities to support families in at-home formation experiences with their children and youth
- Ensure that all Safeguarding Gods̓ People principles, procedures, and policies are followed
- Oversee nursery, childrens̓, and youth spaces, ensuring sufficient supplies and materials are maintained, making enhancements as see fit and as is necessary, and making sure that all spaces are safe, friendly, and welcoming
- Supervise paid and volunteer CYF staff
- Build relationships at local and diocesan levels
- Develop and monitor operating budgets for Children, Youth, and Family programming
- Communicate with key constituents (families, youth, teachers, youth leaders) using a variety of tools: email, texting, web, facebook, What s̓App, etc.
- Creation or oversight of monthly CYF newsletter or similar monthly communication with families.
- Chaperone and/or coordinate chaperones for CYF events offered by the diocese.
- Attend weekly staff leadership meetings

Education and Experience:
- Bachelor s̓ degree preferred
- Proficiency in Spanish language preferred
- On-going attention to personal spiritual growth in Christian discipleship
- Basic understanding of Holy Scriptures and Christian Doctrine as articulated in the Catechism found in the Book of Common Prayer, beginning on page 845
- Strong understanding of Christian Formation with interest in age-appropriate formation of children, youth, parents, and young families
- Understanding current trends, dynamics, and pressures in American society, churches and family structures
- Proficiency with email, Word, Excel, publishing programs, texting, and social media
- Prior experience in managing teams and implementing programming
- Background check required
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- Ability to work on Sundays, Holy Days, occasional evenings, and occasional
Saturdays
- Ability to travel to locations in and around San Diego
- Ability to travel nationally and internationally for mission trips, pilgrimages, and other trips
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $20.00 per hour
