The Director of Young People’s Ministries will envision, develop, and coordinate programs for young people that will foster discipleship in children and youth, and strengthen relationships with the Clairemont community of San Diego. Understanding the stages of child development and demonstrating fruitfulness in service and leadership with young people and their families, the Director will create a caring and safe environment for young people, recruit and empower paid and volunteer staff, and participate in the full life and mission of the congregation of St. Mark’s.

Compensation & Benefits package: The starting compensation for this role is $24-$30 per hour. Two weeks paid vacation after 12 months employment. Accrued sick leave based on hours worked. After a 12-month probationary period, cost-of living and performance-based raises will be considered annually.

Responsibilities/Relationships:

1) Relationships

  • a. Reports to Lead Pastor b. Relates to the Staff Parish Relations Committee c. Works in cooperation with other staff members of the church and nursery school d. Provides direction for the Higher Education Committee and other children/youth ministry volunteers

2) Principle Functions:

  • a. Directs programming for education and spiritual development for children and youth and serves as a pastoral presence to families with young people. 1. Directs and coordinates weekly Sunday School for children and youth. 2. Designs and directs mid-week discipleship development programming for children and youth. 3. Plans and leads biennial Confirmation Courses with pastoral staff. 4. Directs annual Vacation Bible School. 5. Plans regular events for families to foster relationships among parents and children from different households, and to integrate members of all generations in the congregation. 6. Leads or coordinates Children’s Time during Sunday Worship
  • b. Develops and directs programming for community engagement and outreach for children and youth both within and outside the congregation.
  • c. Supervises and supports the work of the Nursery Coordinator
  • d. Participates in weekly staff meetings to coordinate with Lead Pastor and staff regarding children and youth programming.
  • e. Attends monthly meetings of Church Council and other church committees, as appropriate.
  • f. Preaches on occasion.
  • g. Provides timely communication to families both within and outside the congregation through electronic and printed media.
  • h. Engenders support for Young People’s Ministries from the congregation and community, by recruiting and training volunteers and soliciting program funds.

Qualifications:

1. Must be 25 years or older

2. Must have current driver’s license

3. Must have reliable transportation

4. Must have cell phone with text ability

5. Pass Background check and complete Safe Gatherings abuse prevention training.

Physical Activities and Environmental Conditions

1. Ability to lift and carry 35 pounds

2. Ability to climb stairs

3. Ability travel for mission and ministry work

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $24.00 - $30.00 per hour
