POSITION TITLE: Migrant Hotel Driver - SD

DEPARTMENT: Refugee Services

REPORTS TO: Supervisor

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

TIME COMITMENT: Full-time (40 hours/ week) early morning, evening and weekend hours

SALARY: $19.00 per hour

POSITION SUMMARY:
POSITION SUMMARY:
The driver assists the migrant sheltering program in supporting the transportation needs of individuals and/or the program as a whole. The Driver operates Catholic Charities vehicles to transport clients, food and other commodities between sheltering location(s). Additionally, the Driver will monitor the physical and mechanical condition of vehicles used to help maintain safety and vehicle operating efficiency.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
TRANSPORTATION
Safely drive vehicle(s) to transport clients to and from various locations, including sheltering sites, clinics, hospitals, airports and/or greyhound stations.
Accompany and guide clients in person at the various drop-off sites to ensure they successfully check-in.
Safely transport food, donations, and supplies to and from the sheltering site, parish sites, vendors, donors and other areas as assigned.
Load, and unload commodities as directed by onsite supervisor at various locations
Communicate knowledgeably, professionally and in line with agency’s mission with staff, volunteers, partners, donors and clients concerning sheltering activities.

f. Complete all paperwork, records, and schedules, etc. timely and with accuracy

g. Perform other duties as assigned.

2. VEHICLE AND FACILITY MAINTENANCE

Clean vehicle(s) inside at frequency observed and indicated by vehicle(s) conditions
Perform daily vehicle(s) safety inspections (tires, fluids), refuel vehicle as needed, report mechanical problems to Supervisor.

3. AGENCY ENGAGEMENT/ PROCEDURES

Follow established program protocols
Adhere to all agency policies and procedures
Participate in departmental meetings, on-line webinars and other training opportunities

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or GED
Minimum of 2 years driving experience
Ability to operate a motor vehicle, including and up to 15-passenger vans.
Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
Ability to read a map, follow GPS or instructions while navigating to various locations within San Diego County.
Must exhibit excellent customer service skills while interacting with Catholic Charities staff, volunteers, partners, clients, and donors at all times.
Must be knowledgeable of all safety precautions and comply with safety procedures
Knowledge of/familiarity with/sensitivity to the cultural background of migrant populations served by the program
Knowledge of/familiarity with or ability to learn quickly the resources and providers (governmental, civic, social, health, educational, economic, faith-based, etc.) that are available within the community/county to assist migrants
Ability in English to read and comprehend simple instructions, labels, and memos.
Ability in English to express verbally what is needed and what has been done.
Basic working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and navigating the internet.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Valid California Driver’s License and vehicle insurance
Safe driving record as demonstrated by a DMV Pull Program report
Must successfully complete a DOJ / FBI live scan
Catholic Charities maintains a drug-free workplace, and all offers of employment for drivers with Catholic Charities are conditioned on submitting to and successfully completing and passing a drug test.
Tuberculin Skin Test
Successful completion of COVID -19 vaccine inoculation (desired)
CPR/ First Aid Certification (desired)

Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand, to sit, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and to get in and out of a vehicle. The employee frequently is required to walk; climb stairs; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste or smell.

The employee must frequently lift and/ or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/ or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and /or move objects that weigh more than 100 pounds using equipment provided. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

The employee will travel throughout San Diego County and will be exposed to the weather, especially the heat of the day and the hazards associated with road travel. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
