Position Overview: The primary task of the Minister of Congregational Care is to ensure that the spiritual, emotional, and physical needs of the congregation are being met; including during times of illness, hospitalization, death, and grief. Specifically, the Minister of Congregational Care will be asked to engage in the pastoral care ministries of the congregation, and other tasks as assigned. In order to facilitate congregational care ministries, the Minister of Congregational Care, under direction of the Senior Pastor, will manage and coordinate care in these areas:

1. Pastoral care directed by the ministry staff team
2. Parish Nurse program
3. Vicar program
4. Stephen Ministries
5. Friends of Incarnation

Position Qualifications:

Education:College or technical trade school degree or equivalent life and work experience. Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Experience: Experience/training in customer service and patient access occupations preferred. Stephen Minister training is required for this position, but may be completed after hire.

Other Requirements:

  • Must be capable of effectively managing and maintaining privacy and confidential information.
  • Must be warm, compassionate, energetic, and able to develop rapport with others. Ability to empathize with congregational members and office team a must.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with ministry staff, lay workers, and volunteers. Must be able to exercise sound professional judgment while interacting with anyone associated with ILC.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and professional attitude in face-to-face interactions as well as on the telephone, via virtual meetings, and on social media.
  • Must have experience with Microsoft Office programs. Must be able to use a computer proficiently and for prolonged periods of time.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong interpersonal skills with ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group at various levels of sophistication.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work independently on a variety of assigned tasks. Must be organized, detail oriented, and have excellent time management skills.
  • Must be able to attend staff meetings, either in person or via Zoom.
  • Part-time: 20 hour per week. Weekend availability and some travel to off-site locations required.
  • Prior experience serving in a church or worship setting preferred.

Performance Standards/Responsibilities:

  • Respond to incoming telephone messages, calls, and emails related to congregational care.
  • Receive calls from church family and others regarding individuals who are hospitalized or ill. Obtain permission to disseminate information, as appropriate, to a pastor, deacon, Prayer Team coordinator, Parish Nurse coordinator, Stephen Ministry coordinator, Vicar coordinator, or Friends of Incarnation coordinator.
  • Coordinate and manage care team coverage of both short-term and ongoing needs of members of the congregation.
  • Coordinate with other ministries to submit articles to the church newsletter about ministries and events.
  • Review and update Congregational Care booklet.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $23.00 - $25.00 per hour
