Position Summary

Supervise children and provide a safe environment.
Work with Director in daily responsibilities for the operation of the program.
Assist and monitor classroom and outside activities.
Maintain clean surroundings.
When needed, help provides meals for children.
Teach music and theory skills – ability to take small groups/sectionals.
Play an instrument and assist with instruction.

Essential Functions

Assist the teacher/coordinator by passing out or collecting materials, setting out, and putting away equipment as required.
Assist in setting up the room for special activities (crafts, assemblies, etc.) and restoring the room to order following activities.
Assist in keeping the learning environment neat, clean, and in order. This shall include necessary housekeeping duties.
Keep all music organized (librarian), and make copies as needed.
Participate with children in group activities and music rehearsals.
Assist in playground supervision.
Assist in preparation for the serving of meals and snacks.
Treat each child with dignity and respect, be sensitive and responsive to the needs of the children at all times, and be concerned for their safety and well-being.
Teach and supervise children in clean-up activities; teach them to be responsible for keeping their classroom equipment and instruments in good order.
Attend all in-service workshops and staff meetings.
Assist with supervising children in our day camp setting as assigned.
Perform other duties as may be assigned.
Travel with children for field trips.
Report any potential or harmful situation to the Supervisor immediately.

Working Conditions

Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. Ability to be able to lift to 50lbs. Ability to grasp, push, and pull objects such as file cabinet drawers and reach overhead: the ability to operate a computer, fax, and telephone.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum High School graduate or equivalent.
Must be able to read, write and communicate well in English.
Bilingual in English/Spanish, helpful.
Musical ability required.

Detail-oriented.
Self-starter.
Team player.
Must work with and relate well to children, parents, and staff maturely and sensitively.
Meet all health, safety, and criminal/fingerprint clearance regulations.
Must be in good physical and mental health and capable of meeting classroom demands.
Vigorous use of the English language in verbal and written communication.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and maintain poise under pressure.
Ability and willingness to keep the information confidential except for Safe from Harm issues.
Have a philosophy of education and child development that is in sympathy with that of The Salvation Army and Music Summer Day Camp.
