The agency responds to the needs of the poor in two counties of the Roman Catholic Diocese San Diego and Imperial.

POSITION SUMMARYIncrease knowledge of good nutrition and healthy active lifestyles to eligible CalFresh populations by conducting educational sessions and outreach, support CalFresh Healthy Living Policy, Systems, and Environment (PSE) strategies in both San Diego and Imperial County, provide support for CCDSD staff in programs that incorporate PSE strategies, and assist the Program Manager with the administration of the CalFresh Healthy Living contract to ensure compliance with the agreement between Catholic Charities Diocese of San Diego and Catholic Charities of California (CCC).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

CalFresh Healthy Living Programmatic Responsibilities: *

  • Assist with the planning and implementation of CalFresh Healthy Living curriculum in a linguistically and culturally competent manner.
  • Conduct CalFresh Healthy Living presentations at CCDSD and community sites, conduct outreach to build relationships with new sites and provide intra agency support.
  • Collaborate with agency staff to create new and innovative ways to conduct nutrition education and ways to motivate clients to increase consumption of healthier foods.
  • Provide program representation at community meetings.
  • Coordinate and follow-up on the activities specifically outlined in the three-year CalFresh Healthy Living work plan for Policy, Systems, and Environment (PSE) strategies in both San Diego and Imperial County.
  • Conduct research on tools, leading practices, and methods to implement PSE strategies outlined in the most current three-year work plan.
  • Provide administrative support to the Program Manager. Assist with data collection, reporting, supply requisitions, program planning, the scope of work development, and budget management.
  • Other duties as assigned.

CalFresh Outreach Programmatic Responsibilities:

  • Inform and screen individuals for eligibility for CalFresh food and other applicable benefits (including but not limited to EFDN+, Medical, CoveredCA,), provide application assistance, and offer internal and external resources and referrals.
  • Help clients apply for and navigate the process of verification, submission, interviews, and other application requirements.
  • Follow up with clients to ensure application approval and benefit amount for which they are eligible.
  • Attend and/or lead resource/health fairs, community events, and other opportunities for outreach and screening.
  • Learn and maintain in-depth knowledge of the program, agency, and partners.
  • Maintain updated on CalFresh policies and procedures.
  • Identify challenges/barriers among the eligible target population and strategize how to reduce barriers to participation in the CalFresh program.
  • Work with volunteers, clients, and the community at large from various socioeconomic levels.
  • Enter data on clients and their households.
  • Train and work with new Intake staff/volunteers
  • Develop and recommend new ideas for the agency’s CalFresh/Intake operations and tracking systems.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Agency Engagement/ Procedures:

  • Follow established program protocols
  • Adhere to all agency policies and procedures
  • Submit program reports and statistics in a timely manner
  • Participate in departmental meetings, online webinars, and other training opportunities

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Knowledge of Catholic Charities services and resources.
  • Knowledge of/familiarity with or ability to quickly learn the resources and programs that are available within the community/county to assist seniors, the homeless, and other indigent populations.
  • Knowledge of the community resources, health, and social services systems in San Diego County,
  • Ability to organize and plan own work.
  • Excellent attention to detail, with the ability to maintain a high level of accuracy.
  • A flexible, proactive approach to work including the ability to prioritize and re-prioritize.
  • Ability to work on own initiative.
  • Ability to deal with sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality and possess the skill to establish working relationships with community partners.
  • Knowledge of/familiarity with/sensitivity to the cultural background of populations served by the Catholic Charities
  • Ability to conduct oneself in a professional manner
  • Commitment to the mission and values associated with the agency and the program, including, social justice, respect for others, health, & well-being
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish (Desired)
  • Ability to learn and become proficient with Microsoft Office applications – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Valid California Driver’s License and current automobile insurance in compliance with Agency requirements.
  • Successful completion of a live scan, and Federal debarment requirements
  • CPR or First Aid certification (Desired)
