Responsibilities:
MAJOR DUTIES:
1. Serves as a recognized board-certified expert in the delivery of Psychiatric medical care to a wide range of patient psychiatric presentations, ages, conditions and complexities.

a. Provides treatment services in any capacity including, but not limited to, inpatient services, consultation liaison services, partial hospitalization, day programs, emergency psychiatric services, tele-psychiatric services and routine and intensive outpatient services. Monitors treatment effectiveness through evidence based medicine and alters course of treatment as needed through individualized treatment plans; provides continuing follow-up care for inpatients and outpatients with mental health disorders and for complications related to these disorders and provides psychiatric care for walk-in patients presenting with acute illness. Conducts thorough biopsychosocial evaluations of presenting patients including but not limited to integration of laboratory, radiological and clinical findings; prescribing appropriate pharmacological and psychotherapeutic treatment; makes fitness and suitability for duty and other administrative determinations. Identifies patient treatment needs and arranges for a safe therapeutic outcome. Determines and provides mental health assessments of fitness and suitability for duty and deployments of service members based on psychiatric clinical assessment. Collaborates with physicians in other medical specialties on cases involving complicated and multifaceted problems and provides professional consultation, supervision, and collaborative medical support to other professional staff such as psychologists, advanced practice nurses, social workers, and other healthcare providers within the hospital and across other mental health clinics. Provides timely communication to patient’s Command on mental health issues where disclosure is required per Department of Defense Instructions.

2. Serves as member of the professional medical staff and/ or faculty to provide advisory and consultative services on various meetings, committees, conferences, and/ or boards.

a. As a board-certified expert, evaluates the care provided to patients at MTF, identifies opportunities to change the care delivered, advices on difficult or complex cases, and makes recommendations such as hospitalization or determining a service member's fitness for duty. Participates in Quality Assurance (QA) functions, performance improvement programs, risk management programs, and peer review programs. Makes recommendations on improvement of work methods and organizational features. Develops guidelines and trainings for interns, residents, and other medical staff to follow when carrying out patient care services. Develops medical policy, guidance, and standard of care determinations within the MTF specific to Psychiatric medical care. Participates in continuing education programs to update and maintain skills. Attends and or participates in nationally recognized conferences as requested. Serve as a member of the faculty for the Psychiatry Residency Program. Involved in a wide array of teaching activities, including, but not limited to: training, mentoring, and supervising residency students, weekly global supervision to a resident, teaching didactics, attending Graduate Medical Education (GME) meetings to plan and evaluate residency education and residents, and participates in teaching conferences and case discussions.

Board Certified/Eligible

Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy from a school in the United States or Canada approved by a recognized accrediting body in the year of the applicants graduation. [A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school that provided education and medical knowledge substantially equivalent to accredited schools in the United States may be demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) (or a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country).

Candidates must have a permanent, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
