JOB SUMMARY

The School of Theology and Christian Ministry is seeking applicants for a full-time, tenure-track, open rank, Professor of Theology or Practical Theology beginning in the fall of 2022. The position includes teaching upper-division theology or practical theology, general education, and M.A. in Christian Ministry classes, academic advising, and other departmental and committee responsibilities. Candidates working creatively across traditional theological disciplines and placing theology in dialogue with other fields of study are especially encouraged to apply. Also, ideal candidates will have pastoral ministry experience in contexts of underrepresented racial and ethnic groups, which is reflected in interdisciplinary research expertise in underrepresented theological figures, ecclesial histories, and expressions of Christian faith.

Candidates should possess a Ph.D. in either Theology or Practical Theology or a D.Min. (although ABD will be considered) and a commitment to Christian education in connection with the life of the Church. Some experience in undergraduate teaching and ministry is preferred, with an ongoing commitment to professional activity and scholarship in the appropriate academic discipline. The School of Theology and Christian Ministry at Point Loma Nazarene University has a respected tradition of service to the University and the broader catholicity of the Church, with a particular connection to the Southwest Region of the Church of the Nazarene. The School consists of ten full-time faculty actively engaged in research and church ministry. The School provides foundational exploration (GE) courses and offers majors in Christian Studies and Philosophy with various concentrations and minors. The School is committed to the educational preparation and development of women and men for the ministry, including ordained ministry. The School also offers a Master of Arts in Christian Ministry degree.
