POSITION SUMMARY:
The Resident Support Specialist is an essential member of Rachel’s Promise Team, responsible for ensuring participants are served in clean, safe environments. Supports residents in meeting realistic, attainable goals that lead to obtaining safe, stable housing. Develops a solid working knowledge of community resources and establishes collaborative working relationships with colleagues within and outside Catholic Charities. Motivating, supporting, and guiding the people we serve is a shared responsibility for every team member.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Welcomes and orients new participants to shelter; completes initial intakes and explains program routines and behavioral expectations.
Provides a consistent presence in the facility, remaining mindful of residents’ physical, emotional and psychological safety
Prepares meal supplies and assists with serving meals as needed. Oversees meal clean up and ensures stores are fully stocked for the following day
Assists participants in developing life skills (e.g., how to use showers, and laundry facilities, maintain the environment, resolve conflicts, navigate social service delivery system, etc.)
Supports residents in following through on established goals, checks in with participants after off-site appointments, documents progress and barriers to success, and identifies possible solutions. Assists with problem-solving
Assists participants in gathering and obtaining documents necessary to achieve their goals and obtain housing
Ensures facility is clean, well maintained, and supports participants in completing chores promptly and efficiently.
Keeps supervisor apprised of issues, problems, complaints, and concerns expressed by residents
Documents services provided, maintains sign-in logs and other record-keeping processes. Documents significant events in the daily log and emails notes before the end of your shift.
It facilitates participants’ access to technology used to meet with internal CC and external service providers.

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
Bachelor's degree in Human Services, social or behavioral sciences or related field or equivalent experience
Minimum one-year experience serving people experiencing homelessness, living with substance use disorders, and mental illness
A positive, can-do attitude and willingness to learn and grow
Well-developed listening skills
Bilingual Spanish speaking preferred but not required, must be able to read, write and speak English.
Successful completion of a live scan background clearance
Familiarity with trauma-informed approaches to service delivery. Prior knowledge of Motivational Interviewing, Stages of Change, Housing First, and harm reduction approaches to service delivery is a plus
Strong computer skills and ability to become proficient with database software
Valid Driver’s License and a clean driving record
Ability to multi-task, organize, and prioritize
Ability to work effectively as a team member and independently

Physical Requirements: Ability to walk up to 8 hours daily with intermittent standing,g bending, squatting, or climbing. The employee must frequently lift and move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
