AGENCY PROFILE: Catholic Charities Diocese of San Diego was founded in 1919 to provide service to those in need, to be a witness to the scriptural values of mercy, to advocate for justice, and to call all people of goodwill to join in these efforts. The agency responds to the needs of the poor in two counties of the Roman Catholic Diocese San Diego and Imperial.

POSITION SUMMARY:
Monitors the facility to identify potential physical and psychological safety hazards. De-escalates conflicts between residents and supports residents in adhering to La Posada’s behavioral expectations. Prepares breakfast for residents and documents activities performed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides consistent presence throughout the facility, remaining mindful of residents’ physical, emotional and psychological safety.

Ensures facility is clean and well maintained. Identifies and addresses potential safety hazards and building repair needs
Supports residents in completing their assigned chores in a timely and efficient manner.
Assists residents in developing life skills (e.g. how to use showers, laundry facilities, maintain environment, etc.)
De-escalates conflicts between residents
Models respectful communication with residents and co-workers at all times
Prepares breakfast for residents
Oversees after breakfast clean up and ensures supplies are fully stocked for the following meal
Maintains sign-in logs and other record-keeping processes
Stocks, organizes, and distributes supplies.
Launders linens of outgoing residents, as needed.
Informs supervisor about problems, complaints and/or concerns expressed by residents
Documents significant events in the daily log and email shift notes before the end of your shift
Fosters a trauma-informed, safety-focused culture within Rachel’s Night Shelter
Documents all contacts with residents in files and Clarity HMIS and CES (coordinated entry housing placement system)
Complete and submit all required monthly reports and assigned paperwork as needed in a timely and accurate manner.

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
Bachelor's degree in Human Services, social-behavioral sciences, or related field or minimum one-year case management/navigation experience with people experiencing homelessness
Minimum one-year experience serving people living with substance use disorders and/or mental illness
Demonstrated ability to apply Trauma-Informed practices
Solid working knowledge of Motivational Interviewing, Stages of Change, Housing First and harm reduction approaches to service delivery
Ability to speak effectively, with individuals and before groups of women. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Bilingual Spanish speaking preferred but not required.
Strong computer skills and ability to become proficient with database software.
Ability to multi-task, organize, and prioritize
Ability to work effectively with others and independently
