Job Summary:
The professional mission and purpose of the Sound & Media Technician are to:

  • Ensure excellence in live sound, camera, lighting, and media for positive worship experiences both in-person and via Livestream.
  • Be the lead sound engineer and audiovisual tech for audio-visual needs within the church, including but not limited to Sunday worship services, seasonal special services, memorial and wedding services, and other events scheduled in the

Sanctuary and Social Hall.

  • Have a commitment to Christ and the mission of St. Paul’s UMC in Coronado and the work of Worship and assisting others in their Worship of God.

Reports to: Lead Pastor
Functional Guidance: Director of Music

Essential Functions:

  • Before an event: o Setup up all audio and visual equipment (including microphones, music stands, projector, screen, etc.). o, Perform proper line check. o, Perform good sound check (including gain settings, sound mixes, volume settings, and equalization process). o Coordinate with the Lead Pastor, Director of Music, and Coordinator of

Operations & Support for scheduling, last-minute changes, and instruction.

  • During an event: Responsible for adjusting sound levels as needed. o Responsible for following the Praise Team Leader and Director of Music’s instructions. o Responsible for recording services. o Responsible for following cues from the chancel. o Responsible for providing a distraction-free environment as related to audio production.
  • Post-event: o Return all equipment to proper storage. o, Receive feedback if issues occur and troubleshoot before the next event. o, Report any broken/faulty equipment needing servicing. Coordinate with the office to schedule service. o, Post worship recordings to YouTube, Facebook, etc., as appropriate.
  • Other duties: o Be available for special services, such as Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, Good Friday, Easter, etc., o Recruit, schedule, and develop a team of volunteers. o Schedule volunteers for services and special events. o, Direct and manage all technical aspects for worship services and other events. o, Troubleshoot technology for all ministries. o, Provide direction and guidance for new equipment needs, upgrades, and installation. o Post production improvements, for example, edit sermon snippets, etc., to post on the Facebook, podcast, or other social media, etc. o Help create thematic backgrounds, ‘bumper’ videos, etc.
  • Manage the church's social media accounts (YouTube, Facebook).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Time Requirements:
1. Four hours on Sunday mornings.
2. Two hours on Wednesday evenings for Praise Team rehearsals.
3. Two hours minimum for special events.
4. Periodic staff and team meetings.

Roles and Relationships:

  • Demonstrate knowledge and experience with professional sound and audio/visual equipment, presentation software, amps, audio mixers, live stream platforms, cameras, and lighting controls.
  • Experience in any aspect of production/performance audio, including live streaming.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical issues.
  • Ability to follow directions given by supervisors and ministry directors.
  • Be able to present a professional appearance and uphold a positive attitude.
  • Have good communication skills.
  • Ability to lead and develop a team of volunteers.
  • Ability to think quickly and react/troubleshoot appropriately in high-stress situations.
  • Interest in learning new technologies.
  • Must be committed to the mission and values of St. Paul’s UMC.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $18.00 - $24.00 per hour
