Staff Accountant

Position Summary:

The Staff Accountant will be responsible for developing strategies to achieve organizational goals. Duties include but are not limited to internal control, cash receipts, financial analysis, retail, general accounting and audit.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to and provide input on finance policies, systems, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Records weekly cash receipts for all main and multisite campus and ministry revenue.
  • Assist in monthly closing of financial records and posting of month end information; ensure accuracy of financial statements.
  • Responsible for monthly banking reconciliations for multiple accounts
  • Assists with monthly department financial statements including retail operations.
  • Research, collect, analyze and prepare reports of financial data; synthesize complex or diverse information utilizing intuition and experience to complement data.
  • Ensure integrity of financial information in GL system and in output reporting.
  • Assists Controller in all areas of accounting, including journal entries, GL maintenance, database management
  • Handles loan accruals, special projects, and servicing with the annual audit.
  • Assist with other core accounting duties and specials projects as requested.

Job-related Qualifications:

Education, Training, and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience business administration, accounting, finance, or related field preferred
  • Three or more years of accounting experience preferred

  • Familiarity of GAAP and the ability to apply this knowledge in a variety of situations.
  • Strong personal computer and business solutions software skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills for interacting with accountants, clients, and upper management
  • Good communication skills for communicating with support personnel and management
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Good presentation skills for educating internal clients on accounting principles
  • Good planning and organizational skills to balance and prioritize work
  • Great customer service skills.
  • MS Office proficient, especially Excel
  • QuickBooks proficiency preferred.
  • Self-motivated and flexible.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team-oriented environment.
  • Read, write, spell, and communicate clearly in English.
  • Work productively, both independently and collaboratively with others.
  • Follow verbal and written instructions.

  • Attendance at all mandatory meetings and events. This includes serving at Good Friday, Easter and Christmas services as well as the annual volunteer appreciation event.
  • Member of the Rock Church (or willing to transfer membership to the Rock Church).
  • Regular involvement in Rock Church activities, ministries and events.
  • Signed acknowledgment of the Rock's Statement of Faith.
