Salary:
PLNU pays its faculty using a payscale based on experience and academic rank. Faculty salaries using this scale for a 3-semester appointment range from $77,758 to $107,132. The actual salary will be based on the experience, rank, and appointment term of the candidate selected to fill this position.

Job Description:

The School of Nursing is traditional in learning format and includes over 300 students in the BSN program. The RN-BSN program has over 130 students and is hybrid with face-to-face and online components. The MSN program has over 80 students in three clinical tracks (Women's Health, Pediatrics, Adult/Gerontology) for the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) role and a general MSN with emphasis in Education or Health Care Leadership..Point Loma nursing graduates are highly sought out for their unique capacity to care, active involvement, and leadership qualities. We are seeking an experienced nurse educator to join the full time faculty in creatively responding to the education and learning needs of the nurse in the 21st century. This person will actively participate in the vision for the School of Nursing "The School of Nursing at Point Loma Nazarene University embraces, as a covenant, the commitment to excellence within a dynamic Christian environment in which each one will engage in the sacred work of nursing. This sacred work involves symbolically removing one's shoes in service of others".

The School of Nursing is seeking candidates for a full-time tenure track or professional track teaching position in Adult/Gerontology (medical/surgical, and telemetry) Nursing in the undergraduate program (predominantly pre-licensure students in the nursing major) and throughout other post-licensure nursing programs (e.g. RN-BSN, MSN and/or Doctorate). Must meet California Board of Nursing qualifications for full time faculty. Responsibilities will begin August 2023. Responsibilities:

  • Teach in both pre-licensure undergraduate and post-licensure graduate programs
  • Successful candidate will work strategically with diverse colleagues, students, parents and community members.
  • Engage in personal scholarship and scholarship with students (where possible)
  • Advise students academically, spiritually, and socially
  • Serve on university faculty committees/working groups and perform other normal faculty duties
  • Contribute in preparing students for their post graduate career and finding who they are called to be
  • Actively participate in the governance and assessment processes of the School of Nursing
  • Active service in the community and the profession of nursing
  • Active involvement in a local church



Qualifications:

  • Education: A graduate degree (i.e. MSN or DNP/PhD) in nursing required
  • Experience: Evidence of a commitment to excellence in (undergraduate/graduate) teaching. Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching students from diverse backgrounds is preferred.
  • Philosophical: Thorough commitment to the concept of Christian liberal arts education and a desire to work in a Christian university. Supportive of the religious and educational goals of the university and its sponsoring denomination.
  • Personal: Evidence of Christian commitment and active church involvement. In addition, faculty agree to live in agreement with PLNU's Community Life Covenant. Evidence of Christian commitment and active church involvement
  • Must meet California Board of Nursing qualifications for full time faculty
  • Demonstrates potential to excel in academic nursing education
  • Demonstrates potential or evidence of nursing scholarship

Selection Process:

Applicants will be expected to submit an application and corresponding documents. All applicants will be reviewed and evaluated. From this pool of applicants, a limited number will be selected and moved forward in the process. The interview process may include:

  • Phone/Zoom Interview
  • Dialogue with students and faculty in the School of Nursing
  • Lecture presented to faculty and students in the School of Nursing
  • Evidence of successful teaching, if applicable
  • Interview with the Academic unit leader
  • Interview with the Dean of the Colleges
  • Interview with the Provost
  • Interview with the President of the University
