POSITION SUMMARY:
The Emergency Food Distribution Network (EFDN) Program feeds those who suffer from food insecurity in San Diego and Imperial County by acquiring and distributing food through our network of parishes and other sites. The EFDN Driver operates Catholic Charities vehicles to deliver food and other commodities to our partner sites, and pickup food donations from the distribution warehouse and donor sites. Additionally, the EFDN Driver will monitor the physical and mechanical condition of vehicles used to help maintain safety and vehicle operating efficiency.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS:

EFDN DELIVERY*
a. Safely drive vehicle(s) to transport food following all food safety regulations to and from the distribution warehouse to parish sites, and from donors and other areas as assigne
b. Load, unload, commodities as directed by onsite supervisor at various locations.
c. Communicate knowledgeably, professionally and in line with agency’s mission with staff, volunteers, partners, donors and clients concerning EFDN deliveries.
d. Assist with special EFDN+ events and/ or distributions.
e. Complete all paperwork, records, and schedules, etc. timely and with accuracy
f. Perform other duties as assigned.

VEHICLE AND FACILITY MAINTENANCE*
a. Clean vehicle(s) inside on a daily basis and outside at frequency observed and indicated by vehicle(s) conditions.
b. Perform daily vehicle(s) safety inspections (tires, fluids), refuel vehicle as needed, report mechanical problems to EFDN Manager and Facilities Manager.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or GED,
  • Minimum of 3 years driving experience
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle, liftgate, or pallet jack
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish (Preferred)
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals, including EFDN staff, volunteers, partners, clients and donors either autonomously or in a team environment.
  • Ability to read a map, follow GPS or instructions while navigating to various locations within San Diego and Imperial County.
  • Must exhibit excellent customer service skills while interacting with Catholic Charities staff, volunteers, partners, clients, and donors at all times.
  • Effective interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a level of professionalism, promoting Catholic Charities’ EFDN program, community spirit and mission.
  • Must always comply and maintain safe food handling procedures.
  • Ability to follow directions and work independently.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Valid California Driver’s License.
  • Safe driving record as demonstrated by a DMV report that shows no violations or restrictions.
  • Must successfully complete Food Handlers Certification
  • Must successfully complete a DOJ/ FBI live scan.
  • CPR/ First Aid Certification (desired)

The employee frequently is required to walk; climb stairs; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste or smell.

The employee must frequently lift and/ or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/ or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and /or move objects that weigh more than 100 pounds using equipment the provided.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job the employee, may encounter at food distribution warehouses and sites moving forklifts and pallet jacks. When delivering commodities, the employee will travel throughout San Diego County and will be exposed to the weather, especially the heat of the day and the hazards associated with road travel. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
