Overview:

The Youth Group Leader ensures quality programming, support, and mentoring for Kensington Community Church youth in grades 7-12. The youth leader is part of the church staff and is responsible for leading Youth Group meetings with the co-leader. Responsibilities also include planning and communication during the week with the co-leader and parents. In addition to annual traditions, the youth leader develops value-driven teambuilding, community outreach, and hands-on activities in collaboration with the co-leader. The youth leader shares responsibility for weekly meal preparation with the co-leader.

  • The Youth Group Leader is extravagantly affirming of all youth, families and persons affiliated with the church, and the community. The youth leader is also courteous, compassionate and models good manners and loving kindness. Along with meeting our youth “where they are at,” the youth leader is an effective communicator with parents.
  • The Youth Group Leader works with the co-leader, the Office Administrator, Senior Pastor, leaders within the youth group, their families, and church volunteers to engage the youth in faith formation, youth group gatherings, and in the life and ministry of the church.
  • The Youth Group meets on most Wednesday evenings during the school year on the church property from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The Youth Leader is expected to attend most meetings. In addition to Wednesday meetings, the Youth Leader and the co-leader share responsibility for a handful of special events each year.
  • The Youth Leader utilizes extra hours plan activities, games and meals, and for marketing and promotional activities.
  • The Youth Group Leader upholds all safety standards and abides by the Safe Church Policy.
  • The Youth Leader reports to the co-leader, the Director of Faith Formation.

Qualifications:

  • The ideal candidate will have knowledge of the United Church of Christ, progressive Christianity, and experience working with youth in church activities.
  • Passion and enthusiasm for relating to teens.
  • College education and/or relevant coursework.
  • Experience in working with young people.
  • High aptitude for organization, planning, and creating inclusive environments.
  • Extensive communication skills across email, email marketing tools, Zoom, texting, verbally, as well as platforms youth use.
  • Self-starter who is confident working with minimal supervision.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Comfort working in a progressive, Christian non-profit organization.
  • The ability to create engaging social networking posts and email marketing campaigns.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exceptional patience and ability to remain calm always.
  • Excellent listening skills and an engaging demeanor.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Live Scan completed for this position.

Physical Demands

  • While performing this job, the Youth Group Leader is regularly required to walk, sit, use hands to handle objects, operate keyboards, tools or controls, talk and hear.
  • Physically able to perform tasks, including sitting on the floor, bending, standing.
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $20.00 - $23.00 per hour
