Fr. David Couturier, O.F.M. Cap., one of the newest addition to the Viterbo University Board of Trustees, will soon join his first meeting with the team.

As people may know, Father Couturier was a former official of the Boston Archdiocese in Massachusetts, who once served as a director of pastoral planning of the church.

1st Viterbo University Meeting

As reported via the St. Bonaventure University’s website, Father Couturier’s first meeting with other Viterbo University board members will be held on Sunday, Oct. 9.

The schedule of the meeting is not yet announced but it is expected that the majority of members will be there to tackle points about the private Catholic school.

Aside from Father Couturier, who now represents the New York-based St. Bonaventure as one of the President Council’s members, he will be joined by various leaders at the said meeting.

As per the university website, some of the names included on the list are:

  • Chad Babcock, State Farm Insurance
  • Cynthia Hougum, Terumo SVP, Global Quality
  • Mike Quillin, President of Quillin's, Inc.
  • Laquita Becker, a Mayo Clinic Health System Clinical Therapist
  • Theresa Keller, FSPA of Franciscan Sister of Perpetual Adoration

Father Couturier will be one of the few church leaders who will join the meeting.

The other one, who is also an ordained priest, is Fr. Tom Lindner of St. Anne Parish. The rest are members of private companies and initiatives.

According to the report, the former Boston archdiocese official was invited to the meeting after being elected to the position in May.

However, he only started his term on July 1. The community has not yet recognized nor mentioned any achievements, so far, of the new board member.

Who Is Fr. David Couturier?

As earlier mentioned, Father Couturier was a former official of the Boston archdiocese.

According to The Boston Pilot report in 2012, the archdiocese accepted the resignation of Father Couturier around April.

At the time, Msgr. Robert Deeley, vicar general and moderator of the curia, was the one who announced his departure.

The priest cited that the former director will be focusing in Rome, Italy, for a “teaching assignment.”

Due to his departure, the church decided to permanently give the position to Fr. Paul R. Soper, pastor of St. Albert the Great Parish in Weymouth.

Until now, the Boston Catholic confirmed that Father Soper is still the current director of the position.

Monsignor Deeley said in an email that Father Soper possesses good qualities for the position. He noted how they were blessed at the time for Father Soper’s willing soul to replace Father Couturier.

The monsignor added that Father Soper has “insight, pastoral counsel, and leadership as this proposal has been formulated and reviewed through an extensive process of consultation across the archdiocese.”
