Location: Washington, D.C.

Primary Purpose:
The Advocacy Associate is part of the dynamic, forward thinking, mission-centered Advocacy Team of the CWS Immigration and Refugee Program. Responsibilities include providing administrative support to the Advocacy Team, drafting policy, communications, and organizing materials; and tracking and analyzing monitoring, evaluation, and learning efforts. The Advocacy Associate will also be responsible for supporting the Advocacy Team’s state and local refugee and immigration policy goals by tracking and analyzing relevant state legislation and regulations, producing resources for state and local partners, and equipping local organizers with tools to advance their priorities. The Advocacy Team is also comprised of the Policy and Advocacy Manager, National Grassroots Coordinator, Community Organizing Coordinator, Organizing Coordinator, Director for Communications, Media Relations Manager, Media Associate, and seven refugee community organizers across the United States.

Essential Duties:
Provide administrative support for the Advocacy Team, such as logistics for events, meetings, and travel; scheduling internal and external meetings; maintaining team calendars; maintaining databases to track congressional, administrative, and organizational contacts and outreach efforts; assisting in planning policy‐related events such as Hill briefings; and other administrative support as needed.
Develop resources for national, state, and local advocacy, such as policy updates, factsheets, reports, action alerts, policy statements, press statements, press releases, media advisories, presentations, and flyers.
Assist in tracking and maintaining accurate and up to date information on policy proposals that would impact the lives of immigrants and refugees at the national, state, and local levels.
Support Advocacy Team monitoring, evaluation, and learning efforts and assist in grant management and funding proposals and reports.
Contribute to the Advocacy Team’s policy communications, such as updating relevant advocacy webpages, writing blog posts, and drafting outreach emails to Members of Congress.
Support grassroots organizing campaigns and trainings through developing resources, handling logistics, and interfacing with training participants, as needed.
Assist in compiling news articles, monitoring relevant media hits, and drafting opinion editorials, press releases, and media advisories.
Represent CWS and its member communions at congressional meetings, briefings, hearings, think tank events, and meetings with individuals and groups related to asylum, immigration and refugee issues of both a domestic and international nature, as appropriate.
Maintain a manual for this position to assist in continuity and sustainability.

Qualifications:
Education: Undergraduate degree in political science, human rights, or related field preferred.
Experience: At least two years of experience in advocacy, community organizing, or direct service work, preferably involving immigration and refugee issues.
Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
Demonstrated writing, copy editing, and proofreading skills.
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
Proven time management and project management skills, ability to meet multiple deadlines in a fast‐paced work environment.
Familiarity with the U.S. political process, current political dynamics, and policy issues that impact the lives of immigrants and refugees.
Ability to demonstrate initiative, be creative, and work independently with minimal supervision.
Experience with Salesforce; Quorum; Politico Pro; Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Wordpress; InDesign/Adobe or similar software preferred.
Experience or comfort working with U.S. faith communities.
