TYPICAL/PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work on business attraction, expansion and retention efforts
  • Work closely with landlords, developers and property owners, the EDA and the City Council to target businesses that would be a good fit for available/future space in City buildings and to promote the economic development potential of the City
  • Work closely with existing City businesses and the Falls Church Chamber of Commerce staff and members, as a liaison to the business community
  • Assist in preparation for monthly meetings for both the Economic Development Authority (EDA) and the City Council Economic Development Committee meetings. EDA meetings are evening meetings held on the first Tuesday of every month.
  • Assist in creating commercial vacancy reports, updating the online commercial real estate database, fiscal impact projection reports and annual/quarterly reports for the EDO/EDA
  • Oversee maintenance contracts for “downtown”, i.e. Mr. Brown’s Park and future parklets
  • Work as a liaison to other City departments on EDO/EDA projects; i.e. track business tenant improvement and occupancy progress and generally troubleshoot and facilitate on behalf of businesses, landlords and developers
  • As needed, provide direct support to the Economic Development Division Chief and the Director of Community Planning and Economic Development Services (CPEDS)
  • Perform related tasks as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent research skills
  • Ability to prepare professional documents by collecting, manipulating, analyzing, and presenting information pertinent to the work plan of the EDO and EDA via real estate data, Co-Star, Planning/Zoning and budget data/information
  • Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with elected City officials, City leadership and other City staff
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered

 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • College course work in urban planning, business administration or related field
  • Prior experience in local government, economic development, planning, commercial real estate or development
  • Experience in planning, permitting, business operations, commercial real estate, zoning policies, procedures and regulations; Co-Star and business retention and attraction efforts
  • Experience working on entitlements for development projects

Hours: Approximately 40 hours per week; general business hours are 8 AM to 5 PM with option for partial telework. One monthly, in-person evening meeting is required. The City embraces a flexible work environment that allows for a healthy life/work balance.

Salary and Benefits: $77,639 - $104,812 depending on qualifications.
