Summary/Objective
The Cemetery Grounds Assistant position is a burial support, cemetery and grounds maintenance, and general support position located at St. Paul’s Rock Creek Church and Cemetery. The position supports the primary purpose of Rock Creek Cemetery, which is dignified and efficient burials. The incumbent will be required to assist with the excavation graves, probe for graves, place liners and vaults, conduct burials, close graves, and maintain soil and ground cover on graves.

Responsibility

· The position requires the installation of various types of grave memorials, preparing for foundations of grave memorials, resetting and repairing existing grave memorials, and the storage of both new and excess or damaged stones in an organized, safe, and orderly way.

· The position requires coordinating the request repairs of compacted earth and damaged turf; removal of fallen tree limbs; removal of trash, debris, stones, and assorted waste and materials.

· This position requires proper excavation of grave sites in preparation for burial or disinterment, installation of outer burial containers, and backfilling graves, when necessary.

· This position requires responding to service request in a timely manner.

· The incumbent is expected to provide some facility support, to include a range of repairs and maintenance activities on buildings and structures. This will include general cleaning, housekeeping, minor repairs, painting, and organization and maintenance of the service yard and building, and the disposal and recycling of waste.

· The position entails the receipt, storage, issue, and organization of supplies and equipment.

· The position requires operator level maintenance of vehicles, maintenance and proper storage of burial and grounds maintenance equipment.

· This position requires performing other duties as assigned by management.

· The incumbent must have a valid state driver’s license.

· The position requires the wearing of a uniform.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and frequently required to lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. The employee is occasionally required to sit, reach with hands and arms, climb ladders, stoop, kneel crouch, and talk and hear.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5 p.m., as well as Saturdays, as needed.

Travel

Travel is required during the business day.

Required Education and Experience

H.S. Diploma or equivalent. (5 - 7 years of related experience may be substituted for education.) Previous experience in cemetery environment (preferred).Two years of increasingly responsible related experience, or any equivalent combination of related education and experience.

Work Authorization/Security Clearance

Must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Pay: $20.00 - $24.00 per hour
