• A Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, marketing, or related field

• Excellent written and oral communication skills

• 3-5 years of experience in the communications and digital media field

• Working knowledge of or experience with website content management systems, mass mailing tools, social media platforms, web analytics, and internet streaming platforms

• All employees are required to show proof of vaccination

• Washington, DC 20005: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)

• Communication skills: 3 years (Required)

Responsibilities

• Serves as the communications focal point for The New York Avenue Presbyterian

• Partners with office staff, pastoral staff, lay leaders, and other relevant individuals and organizations to create and enact the Church’s communication strategy

• Manages the communication strategy for NYAPC to facilitate member engagement and encourage congregational growth

• Puts appropriate policies and procedures in place to enable the communication strategy

• Acts as Church staff liaison to the NYAPC Communications Committee

• Works effectively with Church volunteers to execute the communications strategy

• Print & Digital Communications

• Oversees and designs all printed communications to the congregation and community, including, but not limited to:

• Creating and/or overseeing the creation of promotional and informative materials NYAPC distributes, such as bulletins, press releases, print materials,

• Coordinating the design and distribution of all communication messages, including brochures, direct mail, on-premises signage, and more

• Supporting and coordinating special event campaigns, as required

• Providing support to committee/ministry chairs by coordinating the communication of volunteer and other participation opportunities

• Oversees and maintains the online presence of NYAPC, including, but not limited to:

• Managing the Church’s nyapc.org website and social media presence, including web and social media analytics

• Creating and/or overseeing the creation of promotional and informative materials NYAPC distributes across all forms of digital media, such as the website, digital campaigns, social media, and more

• Coordinating the design and distribution of all communication messages, including the website, newsletters, social media platforms, electronic signage, etc

• Serves as primary Church contact for external media, coordinating with the Senior

• Develops and maintains quality control across all communications

• Maintains distribution lists of Church members and appropriate partners

• Executes other requests made by the Senior Pastor/Head of Staff or appropriate elected leadership of the Church

• Oversees the Tech Team, without need to be on-site on Sundays

• Curates and creates video content for Church social platforms

• Develops and oversees a master communication plan for the Church, including a communication/editorial calendar, in consultation with staff, the Communications

• The committee, and other essential volunteers

• Initiates, establishes, and manages editorial and design standards for NYAPC’s brand image and communications policies, making sure all Church materials are consistent in their messaging and branding

• Develops and manages vendor relationships

• Manages the Church’s social media presence, including policies, editorial calendar, and authorized users

• Plans and evaluates the effectiveness of advertising and public relations

• Implements policies established by the Session and Communications Committee

• Identifies and supports other strategic measures that would further the mission and purpose of the Church

• Essential functions will change as the nature of business demands change

• Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and effectively conduct the duties of the job, often when presented with multiple competing requests from Church staff, lay leaders, and members of the congregation
