POSITION OVERVIEW

The First Baptist Church of Glenarden Marketing & Communications Department, is seeking a full-time Content Writer/Editor who will be responsible for conceptualizing, crafting and editing internal and external communications. This will include drafting and editing copy for multiple channels and platforms, such as print publications and programs, websites, email marketing, advertisements, annual reports and blogs. The Content Writer/Editor is also responsible for helping define our brand voice and ensuring that all copy is consistent with that voice by writing, editing and proofreading all departmental materials. This position reports to the Director of Marketing & Communications.

 


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Writes creative, fresh copy that connects with the target audience and drives the user to take action.
  • Produces well-researched content and adapts for every execution, selecting the right tone, style, structure and voice based on audience, usage, space, strategy, media and brand considerations.
  • Ensures that content produced is free of errors and is of high quality in terms of grammar, spelling, punctuation, accuracy and the FBCG Style Guide.
  • Promotes the FBCG brand and services through creative storytelling techniques.
  • Assists in writing short scripts for audio and video content.
  • Uses search engine optimization (SEO) strategies in writing to maximize the online visibility of our websites.
  • Revises copy based on internal and external client feedback.
  • Interprets client requirements and develops them into appealing and persuasive copy.
  • Utilizes industry best practices and familiarity with the FBCG mission to develop content.
  • Develops an editorial calendar, collaborating with other members of the team to ensure timely delivery of materials.
  • Drafts media alerts, press releases, speeches and other official correspondence to highlight church events and initiatives.
  • Prepares talking points to be used by staff on various issues.
  • Develops crisis communications messaging as needed.
  • Drafts content for the Sunday bulletins and other event programs.
  • Updates and maintain FBCG Style Guide.
  • Trains staff and ministries on usage of the FBCG Style Guide.
  • Collaborates with stakeholders to translate vision, mission and ministry and event themes and requirements into clear, consistent and compelling messaging.

 


QUALIFICATIONS

 


  • Must be saved, have a servant’s heart, and be a member, in good standing or willing to join and become a member in good standing of FBCG.
  • Must be able to submit to authorities as defined by the Pastor.
  • Must possess a gracious, Christ-like demeanor in demanding situations.
  • Must have an understanding and appreciation for the ministry and the mission of FBCG.
  • Exceptional writing, proofing, editing and research skills.
  • Able to share a strong portfolio of writing samples for various mediums.
  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in writing, editing and strategic communications.
  • Knowledge of and the ability to adhere to style guidelines.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and computer skills.
  • Ability to multi-task between several high-profile projects.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced work setting with diplomacy and composure, often in a rapid-response environment where time is of the essence.
  • Ability to take instruction, guidance, and constructive criticism well, and implement feedback into the next iteration of copy.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while simultaneously collaborating with the team and receiving/incorporating feedback from project stakeholders.
  • Ability to be extremely flexible in an environment that is subject to many “spur of the moment” changes.
