Mount Vernon Place United Methodist Church (MVPUMC) is looking for a dynamic Director of Finance and Operations to oversee and manage our property and financial operations, including the marketing and negotiation of short and long-term space use agreements. We need someone who is dedicated to our overall mission, who understands the value and necessity of development relationships with neighbors and core stakeholders, who is detail oriented to ensure complete accuracy in our financial records and reports, who prides themselves in making sure the facility is always ready to welcome whoever might walk through the door, and who can enthusiastically ensure maximum use of our space by professional entities, initiatives, and ministries. The person will embrace our statement of welcome and develop a passion for the church’s mission to transform our city through worship, service, and justice.

Who We Are:
MVPUMC is a dynamic and diverse congregation, led by a great team of staff and church members, located in the heart of downtown Washington, DC, across the street from the Washington Convention Center and the Marriott Marquis Hotel. Our congregation is committed to discovering how to faithfully provide real community for those who live in the neighborhood – housed and unhoused, gay and straight, liberal and conservative, people who have been here for years and those who are just arriving in the city. Our facility consists of an impressive, renovated historic church building as well as 22,000 square feet of office, kitchen, classroom and gathering space in an office building finished in 2009. Our congregation has hosted a variety of ministries within our amazing space while also sharing it with a wide range of long-term and one-time building partners.

What You’ll Do:
Manage our Property

Provide oversight for the care, upkeep, security, and maintenance of the property and equipment

Work closely with contractors to ensure systems are maintained and repairs are completed in a timely manner

Respond to any problems or emergencies and troubleshoot solutions

Make Sure our Building is Fully Utilized

Market space to potential and existing building partners

Establish and maintain long-term building partnerships and agreements

Negotiate and prepare agreements and appropriate paperwork for all space users

Schedule building use and staff

Oversee Financial Operations, Human Resources, and Information Technology

Create, implement, and administer operating policies and procedures for accounting, record-keeping, and all business-related duties

Oversee all accounting transactions including accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, and taxes

Reconcile bank and investment accounts

Administer and oversee employee records, payroll, and benefits

Manage church database and operating software (ACS/Realm)

Maintain all tangible and intangible IT resources including computers, software, phones, audiovisual, and network

Provide support to AV staff and volunteers

Who You Are:
The ideal candidate will bring:
A hyper attention to detail, a spirit of yes, and a 100% commitment to follow through

An ability to think quickly, plan long range, and solve problems

A proactive, opportunity-seeking approach that loves to learn and grow as an individual so our congregation can continue to grow, flourish, and make a vital difference

A commitment to team-based work with a willingness to always help where needed

These qualities are more important than any one type of experience or expertise. Prior experience in operations or facility management, human resources, or accounting could help your application rise to the top. Demonstrated competency in building relationships and partnerships with individuals and organizations, including contract negotiation and implementation would enable you to hit the ground running. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with attention to Word, Outlook, and Excel as well as the capacity to quickly learn and master other software programs is a must.

What Else You Should Know:
MVPUMC is an equal opportunity employer. The position is full-time (exempt) and requires the employee to be on site during normal office hours. Other benefits include health insurance, vacation, holiday and sick pay benefits, pension contribution, and garage parking or Metro subsidy.
