JOB SUMMARY: 

The Adult Basic Education (ABE) Instructor provides instructional support to adult learners at primary and secondary education levels by assisting them with mastering technology, workplace readiness, and workplace literacy skills.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
Design and deliver a class curriculum that fosters mastery of technology and workplace readiness training, which includes functional life skills; workplace literacy skills, including basic literacy skills for adult learners in primary and secondary education levels.
Develop lesson plans according to the Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment System (CASAS) competencies.
Develop Individual Employment Plan/Individual Support Plan goals.
Review adult learner Individual Education Plan, Individual Support Plan, and Behavior Support Plan quarterly.
Integrate technology such as computers, LCD projectors, overhead projectors, calculators, and other adaptive equipment into class instruction.
Facilitate and support students in computer instruction using tools like Kentucky Educational Television, Blackboard, Phillip Roy, Inc. Basic Skills, and PLATO systems software.
Provide weekly/monthly reports of adult learner progress to Program Manager; document measurable goal attainment.
Encourage students to achieve personal outcomes and become empowered in literacy and independence.
Complete monthly, quarterly, and annual reports to document program participant activities and progress toward their specified Individual Support Plan/Individual Education Plan goals.
Participate in monthly employment team meetings and sessions to address program status, behavior concerns, goal updates, etc., for the current and upcoming Individual Support Plan year.
Provide case management/wrap-around supportive services to program participants and Employment Specialists with consistent and timely follow-up to identify barriers and challenges. Assist in accomplishing identified Individual Support Plan/Individual Education Plan goals for program participants.
Link students to community resources that promote self-sufficiency.
Serve as advisor to students and provide academic tutorial support as needed.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in rehabilitation or other appropriate areas. Master’s degree.
Two years of work experience specific to disabilities with knowledge of substance abuse, mental health, and case management/rehabilitation.

SKILLS and COMPETENCIES:
Proficient in MS Office software, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet use, and email.
Practical communication skills, written and verbal.
Possess skills in educational assessments, databases, and data entry skills.
