KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Assistant Public Safety Manager position consists of administrative and armed officer duties requiring experience and abilities and in both areas. They will be responsible for monitoring and maintaining the overall security of Grace Church properties, including the operational and physical security through the following duties:

Schedule:

  • Sunday (7:30 am – 1:30 pm)
  • Monday through Thursday afternoon/evening (1:00 pm – 10:00 pm)
  • Holiday services and outside events (Fridays and Saturdays)
  • Requires availability to work one to two full weekends (Friday and Saturday) per month

Administrative:

  • Manage department operations in the absence of the Manager
  • Support the development and maintenance of operating policies and protocols
  • Coordinate, manage and schedule public safety for daily operational needs and special events
  • Maintain public safety service records for Sundays, Holiday services, ministry events, outside events, training and certifications, equipment/uniform inventory, volunteer years of service, etc.
  • Assist with the annual security and safety audits
  • Assist with office administration and operational functions including responding to voicemail and email, maintaining calendars, organizational charts and documents, scheduling appointments, and completing special projects as directed by the Public Safety Manager
  • Engagement for the recruiting of new volunteers and onboarding those new hires/volunteers
  • Assist with the design, program, and management of security systems
  • Collaborate and communicate with other departments maintaining strong relationships
  • Provide training to public safety team officers and staff/volunteers in other church ministries.

Officer:

  • Provide Public Safety presence in the building
  • Provide positive public relations and guest services to our staff, guests, and congregants
  • Monitor and prevent unauthorized entry into restricted areas
  • Assess, respond, contain and resolve situations that arise by taking appropriate action steps based on policies and training
  • Monitor, enforce and report violations of church rules and applicable state laws
  • Write legible, timely, concise, and accurate statements/reports
  • Maintain a high degree of confidentiality and professionalism
  • Testify in court proceedings as required
  • Provide leadership, under the direction of the Public Safety Manager, during perceived and real threats to identify and adjust security and safety posture as needed
  • Assist Public Safety Manager in contacting emergency services. Communicate and work with responding police, medical and fire personnel
  • Operate church vehicles in accordance with the church and department policies
  • Requires availability to work one to two full weekends (Friday and Saturday) per month
  • Other duties as assigned

PROFESSIONAL AND SPIRITUAL EXPECTATIONS

 


  • Education: Secondary schooling in Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice, Security, Public Safety, or related field. Medical certifications such as First Aid/AED, EMR, EMT, etc.
  • Training: security, medical, radio, dispatch, surveillance, and access systems, recruiting, and administrative operations
  • Knowledge: security, loss prevention, medical response, conflict resolution, emergency planning, use of force continuum/model, EDPs, card access systems, camera surveillance systems, Microsoft 365, local and state laws
  • Experience: 5 years of relevant experience
  • License: State of Minnesota Permit to Carry
  • Understands and adheres to Grace Church and Public Safety department's rules of conduct, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to remain calm and make appropriate decisions in high-stress situations.
  • Ability to handle disgruntled or agitated people in potentially hostile and physical situations.
  • Ability to utilize strong verbal, and interpersonal skills when speaking to staff and guests, and demonstrate positive public relations skills
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Maintain physical ability level that allows for carrying out all aspects of the position including (not limited to): lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds, climbing several flights of stairs promptly, standing, walking, sitting, crawling, squatting, crouching, kneeling, and bending
  • Agreement of exposure to bloodborne pathogens and noise above 85 decibels
  • Agree and align with Grace Church’s Statement of Faith
