DeLaSalle is accepting applications for the position of Dean of Student Life.
Purpose of Position: The Dean of Student Life will provide leadership to encourage and support positive student behavior formation and promote positive school attendance, school safety, and violence prevention. In conjunction with the Administration, will assist in establishing a student learning environment where diversity is respected and where students learn to take responsibility for their actions and exercise positive social interaction.
A sample list of primary responsibilities include:
- Responsible for learning and development of students outside of classroom and encouraging student personal growth and development. Work closely with the Principal to ensure consistency in formation and discipline across the school.
- Serve as the primary formation and discipline authority for students. Intervene in occurrences of inappropriate behavior of students for the purpose of modifying behavior and developing successful interpersonal skills. Enforce student responsibility and accountability related to discipline issues in accordance with the Board approved student behavior code. Conduct discipline and suspension hearings in accordance with established school procedures.
- Monitor daily and section attendance information; Facilitate the compilation and recording of student attendance data with appropriate systems, communicating with families as necessary on student attendance matters. Plan, design, and conduct follow through strategies to implement appropriate disciplinary measures regarding attendance, tardy and behavior policies. Assist students in developing strategies to address barriers to their consistent and timely attendance. Effectively analyze problems, issues, and concerns, and formulate appropriate alternative solutions.
- Provide positive and timely communication with students and parents regarding discipline concerns, social interactions, detention assignments, and classroom management, while maintaining strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Assist Islander Welcome Committee in preparing activities and responding to new students transitioning to DeLaSalle.
- Be available for chaperoning large school events outside of normal school hours.
- Provide direction to moderators of such events in assigning chaperones.
DeLaSalle High School, a co-ed Catholic High School, grades 9-12, located on beautiful Nicollet Island in the heart of the City of Minneapolis, MN, is accepting applications for Dean of Student Life for the 2021-2022 school year to begin August, 2021.
Founded by the Christian Brothers in 1900, the DeLaSalle community prays and educates in the Lasallian spirit. Our diverse student population numbers 700 with students coming from across the Twin Cities area, as well as from international schools. An AdvancED accredited school, we offer a college preparatory curriculum and a wide range of student activities.
QUALIFICATIONS
Qualifications
- BA degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
- 3-5 years of classroom or prior education administrative experience. Participation in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion Efforts a plus.
- Direct experience working with and managing students in a diverse environment..
- Demonstrated track record of being responsive to students and families
- Have a full understanding of student information systems to manage student performance data.
- Commitment to the Mission of DeLaSalle High School.
