Brooklyn United Methodist Church (BUMC) is a unique worship and service community for children, youth and adults who are striving to find their sense of identity, viability, and community within a multi-cultural faith community. All ministries are devoted and dependent upon a relational approach to discipleship, leadership, and service. Qualifications
 

  • General knowledge of Scripture and Methodist theology
  • Demonstrated experience in working with children and families
  • Experience in planning and implementing ministries, lessons, and presentations
  • Skills in areas related to leadership and communication
  • Knowledge of and experience with leading or accompanying relevant Christian music is a plus
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and social media
  • Clear criminal background check as performed by BUMC

  • Comfort and commitment to nurture a culturally integrated community as you recognize, affirm, and engage individuals within all cultures of BUMC, including those outside the church community
  • Commitment to embrace additional needs for seasonal ministry, on contract, e.g., summer camps, vacation bible school, or other agreed upon programming
  • Compliance with church policies and procedures, including Safe Sanctuary
  • Self-motivated, takes initiative, well organized, collaborative team player

Responsibilities
 

  • Children & Family Leadership

o Effectively relates and collaborates with other Ministry Coordinators and Pastoral Staff

o Collaborates in planning and implementing common themes, resources, and fellowship events

o Interprets vision and goals for Children & Family Ministries
 

  • Sunday School Administration

o Maintains enrollment and attendance, class assignments, and contact lists

o Recruits older youth and adult guides to grow in faith community with children and their families

o Implements curriculum and program components in partnership with Pastoral Staff and Children & Family Ministries team
 

  • Children's Ministry Development and Implementation

o Provides outcome-based lessons with print, electronic, and social media-driven resources for children to enrich their individual and family faith in daily life

o Gathers and acquires resources and works with volunteers to prepare for interactive learning
 

  • Partnership and assistance with Ministry Teams (volunteer-led events and ministries)

o Partners with Pastoral Staff and planning team leadership to determine appropriate extra-curricular events and ministries

o Assists in acquiring appropriate ministry and event resources and additional volunteer leadership

o Oversees effective promotion and appropriate communication
