Job Summary

Thrivent is looking for a new Church Loan Underwriter/Credit Analyst to join our team! We are looking for someone who can be responsible for supporting the investment of allocated funds in the Church & Institution Financing portfolio as part of the larger Thrivent General Account. You will assess risk and makes underwriting recommendations to structure appropriate loan opportunities. You are also responsible for building a positive relationship with each institution during the initial processing of the loan and maintaining this relationship throughout the life of the loan.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Pre-screen smaller new loan opportunities prior to receiving loan applications in support of Business Development leads or incoming 800-line inquiries including review of financial data and governance model.
  • Review, analyze, and underwrite smaller loan requests, including review of financial information, membership data, property valuation, risk assessment, and apply loan guidelines and policies to the underwriting process.
  • Determine appropriate loan structure to best meet the institution's needs. Negotiate the loan terms and conditions. Prepare loan commitments and work with Business Development as needed to educate borrowers on the various loan requirements for a smooth transition to the closing process.
  • Provide direction to the closing process and review and approve all third-party reports (e.g., appraisals, environmental reports, etc.).
  • Throughout the life of the loan, address review, re-underwrite, recommend approval or decline any of borrower needs including requests for additional funds, refinancing, loan restructuring, delinquencies, partial releases, or other loan maintenance issues.
  • Review and recommend approval/decline of partial releases, SNDAs, lease reviews, insurance claims, etc.
  • Property research to support UW team for specific deals.
  • Spread financials, prepare EOI's, Term Sheets and Commitment letters in support of other UWs.
  • Provide ongoing updates to risk rating & other UW processes.



Required Job Qualifications

  • College degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
  • 1-5 years of varied mortgage/real estate experience.
  • Church operations experience or knowledge preferred.
  • Excellent analytical/math skills including proficiency with spreadsheet systems.
  • Strong multitasking skills.
  • Collaborative and proven ability to build strong relationships.
  • Ability to negotiate loan terms and conditions.
  • Excellent communication skills including ability to educate borrowers regarding lending processes and requirements.



Other Critical Factors

  • Some limited travel as needed for site visits and presentations to prospective customers.
  • Meet with institutions during board meetings (evenings or weekends) as needed.
