Full Job Description
- Assist the Pastor to build up the local faith community by offering Faith Formation education to elementary age children and parents/caregivers in order to communicate the deposit of the Faith to the members of Church of Saint Michael - Prior Lake.
- Oversee coordination of all aspects of the Elementary (grades 1-5) Faith Formation Department through collaborative leadership with the Pastor, Director of Faith Formation, and other Faith Formation Staff. This coordination will include assuming leadership in the preparation of the elementary formation department budget, calendar, communications, and volunteer/catechist recruitment and training.
- Provide timely accurate information and regular updates about Faith Formation opportunities through bulletin, announcements, parish and parent newsletters, website and other effective means.
- Manage educational programs for grades 1~5 and related areas including catechist formation, parent and family catechesis.
- Manage Sacramental Catechesis/Preparation for the reception of the Sacraments of First Penance and First Holy Communion. Coordinate with St. Michael Catholic School teachers for sacramental formation of second grade school children and families.
- Prepare children outside the normal ages (Grades 3~5) to receive these sacraments.
- Coordinate and prepare monthly grade level Masses.
- Invite the inclusion of home schooling families to the parish educational life and youth ministry.
- Manage and direct the VBS program during the summer.
- Be responsible for consistent invitation to all children, youth and adults to participate in the educational life and activities of the parish.
- Serve as an active member of the Parish Staff, working collaboratively to implement the mission of the church and to support the vision of the Pastor.
QUALIFICATIONS
This position is available 1-1-2023 (can begin earlier upon agreement).
Candidate should:
Have a degree in Elementary Education and/or Theology, Catholic Studies.
Have two to five years’ experience in faith formation/religious education work.
Be a practicing Catholic.
Demonstrate competence in program coordination and supervision.
Knowledge of Catechetical methodology.
