Job Purpose:
Provide oversight to all aspects of parish efforts to integrate Catholic social teaching into the life of the parish. Develop and sustain relationships in the wider community with organizations working on charitable initiatives and on social and environmental justice. Serve as resource to the pastor, staff, and parish leadership on issues of justice and community outreach.

Employment in and by the Church is substantially different from secular employment. Church employees must conduct themselves in a manner which is consistent and supportive of the mission and purpose of the Church. Their public behavior must not violate the faith, morals or laws of the Church or the Archdiocese, such that it can embarrass the Church or give rise to scandal. This position does not require that the employee be a Catholic. It is expected however that all employees will respect Catholic doctrine and religious practices. Essential Functions of Position:
1. Serve as staff liaison to the Justice and Outreach Commission, providing direction to justice and outreach ministries both within and beyond the parish.

2. Provide education and formation for the parish on issues of justice.

3. Serve as staff liaison to (or coordinate as needed) the following ministries: Sister Parish, JustFaith, Environmental Justice, Respect Life, Discipleship Practices Project, Hunger Action, Angel Tree and Sponsor A Family, Parish Food Shelf Garden, School Supply Drive, Loaves and Fishes, Refugee Resettlement, Giving Center.

4. Supervise the staff and ministry of Hope for the Journey Home Homeless Shelter (HJH): Hire, support and evaluate shelter staff. Maintain service agreement and facilitate relationship with our partners at St. Andrews Community Resource Center (CRC). Facilitate work of HJH Advisory Team and HJH Finance Committee.

5. Ensure the parish role in advocacy in partnership with Catholic Charities Advocacy Team, Catholic Relief Services, Joint Religious Legislative Coalition, and others. Educate parishioners on seeing social issues through the lens of Catholic social teaching and working for the common good.

6. Support and resource the Sister Parish leadership team.

7. Work with Justice and Outreach Commission to establish a yearly slate of Parish Outreach Grants and a yearly slate of Outreach Plate Collections.

8. Serve as primary contact for walk-in assistance for those in need of emergency gas and food assistance. Ensure that office staff are updated and resourced to fill in when needed. Maintain adequate supply of gift cards for this ministry.

Parish Ministry and Staff:
Participate fully in the Pastoral Planning Team (PPT) and encourage collaborative ministry with staff team.
Serve as resource to all staff in integrating Catholic social teaching throughout parish ministry.
Attend all scheduled staff meetings and serve as needed on staff and parish committees.
Ensure alignment of ministries with the parish Long Range Strategic Plan.
Foster healthy relationships with both staff and parishioners through collaboration.
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS

Roman Catholic with a demonstrated commitment to the social mission of the Church.

Professional competence as a lay minister.

Undergraduate degree (graduate degree preferred) in theology or ministry with coursework in Catholic social teaching, ethics, morality or similar.

Experience in teaching, facilitation, group process.

Strong communication skills (verbal, written, relational) and computer literate.

Able to take initiative and work without direct supervision.

Mental demands/physical demands:
Candidate must be self-motivated, organized, and flexible with an ability to prioritize workload and adjust to changing parish needs. Work equally well independently and as part of a team. Position involves frequent evening and weekend work. Ability to lift and carry materials up to 25 pounds, move tables and chairs and complete daily computer work.
