The Executive Director of The Dignity Center will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for The Dignity Center’s staff, programs, expansion, and execution of its mission. The Executive Director will develop deep knowledge of the field, the current program, operations, and create a business plan for stability and expansion. This is a full-time position with benefits.
Reports to: Senior Pastor of Hennepin Avenue United Methodist Church (HAUMC) and is accountable to the Staff Parish Relations Committee.

Executive Level, Full-time (35-40 hours weekly), hourly non-exempt

The Dignity Center is an interfaith ministry of Hennepin Avenue United Methodist Church. The Dignity Center’s mission is to welcome and support people living in poverty by empowering them to create their own path to stability. Responsibilities
Leadership & Management:

  • Lead the day-to-day operations of The Dignity Center Program, maintaining a strong commitment to The Dignity Center’s core mission and practice.
  • Recruit, develop, and support a strong Advisory Board; serve as ex-officio of each subcommittee; seek and build board involvement in setting the strategic direction and strategic programmatic goals, set and manage a budget, evaluate the program based on data and performance.
  • Provide clear and transparent financial accounting in compliance with HAUMC’s accounting policies and GAP to the Advisory Board and to the Director of Finance of HAUMC.
  • Ensure effective systems to track scaling progress, and regularly evaluate program components, to measure successes that can be effectively communicated to the Advisory Board, HAUMC leaders, community partners, donors, and other constituents.
  • Recruit, lead, train, coach, develop, and retain staff and volunteers.
  • Stay current and knowledgeable about city, state, and federal resources that are available to those who are homeless and struggling with poverty and communicate these to staff and volunteers so they are well equipped to serve our clients.

Fundraising & Communications:

  • Create excellent communication strategies and execute them to build awareness of The Dignity Center in the community, at HAUMC, and with our community partners and donors.
  • Fundraising experience and demonstrated success in grant writing, event planning, and donor cultivation
  • Work effectively on a collaborative team with our staff, volunteers, and members of HAUMC so that The Dignity Center is integrated into the risk-taking mission and service efforts of HAUMC.

Qualifications
The Executive Director of The Dignity Center will demonstrate commitment to The Dignity Center’s mission and the mission and vision of Hennepin Avenue United Methodist Church. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate their experience in successfully leading a non-profit organization.
Specific requirements include:

  • Master’s degree in non-profit management with training in social services, psychology and counseling, or ministry experience
  • Five or more years of non-profit management experience with a proven track record of effectively leading a performance and outcomes-based organization with leading staff and volunteers including recruiting, screening, orienting, and training, supporting, and managing the day-to-day work of volunteers
  • Experience planning and providing ongoing training for volunteers that includes interviewing skills, boundary setting in the advocate/client relationship; racism and trauma; record keeping; community resources, recognizing trauma and brain injury, understanding diverse cultures and poverty
  • Unwavering commitment to quality programs and data-driven program evaluation
  • Commitment and skill in cultivating and working collaboratively with community partners and organizations serving those who are homeless.
  • Excellent organizational management skills including the ability to coach, staff, manage, and develop teams, set, and achieve strategic goals and objectives, create, and manage a budget
  • Past success working with a Board of Directors or Advisory Board with the ability to form and cultivate strong board member relationships and the ability to point to specific examples of having developed and operationalized strategies that have taken an organization to the next stage of growth
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills and ability to use social media and web-based communication strategies in collaboration with our Director of Communications to promote The Dignity Center, expand our volunteer pool, and increase the number of donors to The Dignity Center.
  • Must have passion, integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, be self-directed and willing to be accountable to the Advisory Board and to the Senior Pastor.
