Music plays an enormous role in communal worship. Our Minister of Music understands this and is excited to bring a diversity of styles and songs to help our congregation in praise and worship on Sunday mornings. Conscious of the importance of language in lyrics, this talented person is a servant leader who encourages, builds, and leads by example.

“The trumpeters and musicians joined in unison to give praise and thanks to the Lord. Accompanied by trumpets, cymbals and other instruments, the singers raised their voices in praise to the Lord and sang: ‘He is good; his love endures forever.’” ~2Chronicles 5:13

Responsibilities

  • Provide lead oversight to the music ministry of Calvary with a vision for excellence.
  • Meet 2x a month with the worship band leader and pastoral staff to prepare for worship.
  • Prepare for and direct weekly rehearsals in concert with the worship band.
  • Prepare, develop & enhance the skills of our choir made up of singers who are at varied levels of experience and ability to sing confidently at least monthly.
  • Lead Sunday congregational worship with a prepared team of singers 3x month.
  • Create a new children/youth music/arts ministry where those interested have the ability to sing 1x every 2 months and for special services.
  • Oversee the Christmas at Calvary Concert & special services (MLK, Christmas Eve)
  • Recruit others to be a member of the worship/music ministry at Calvary.
  • Desired but not required: Perform monthly at the Prodigal Pub

Qualifications

  • A heart soft for the Lord and for those seeking to worship and walk in his ways.
  • An attitude and communication style that reflects servant leadership.
  • A proven record of faithfulness to a music ministry and to those involved with it.
  • An ability to communicate a philosophy of how music plays a core role in worship.
  • Knowledge of music theory and ability to teach/train others.
  • Proficiency in keyboard skills to lead worship.
  • An ability to develop & direct both a choir & worship team, distinguishing between the two.
  • A team player; wanting to encourage and support other staff and volunteers.
  • A desire to support Calvary’s core values through the music ministry.
  • A proven record of investing in and nurturing children and youth through the development of music ministry appropriate for them.
  • Possession of organizational and communication skills needed for planning with others, scheduling rehearsals, teaching and leading others to be prepared for Sunday worship.
  • An appreciation for diverse styles of music and cultural expressions of worship.

Reports to: Senior Pastor

Terms of Employment: Salaried position averages 18 hours/week. Competitive compensation based on experience. Includes sick time & up to 12 Sundays off per year.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: From $17,500.00 per year
